I thought I'd share my impressions with the car and give feedback on the options I did chose for the benefit of others who may be ordering their 718.
Disclaimer: This is strictly my personal opinion and YMMV of course.
It has been 4 weeks and 1000 miles since I took delivery of my 718 Cayman. I'm still trying to respect break in so I have not pushed the limits often yet.
First of all I chose the 2.0 vs the 2.5 engine. While the 2.5 engine is certainly great the 2.0 is plenty responsive and fast enough for my needs.
One reason for choosing the 718 in the first place was to get a car that's fun and engaging to drive without having to do double the posted speed limit just to rev out 2nd gear.
The 2.0 engine fits this bill perfectly imho. Both engines 2.5 and 2.0 sound absolutely sublime for 4 cylinder engines.
The power, torque and soul Porsche squeezes out of them is simply amazing.
Love the sound the turbo makes. It's like a breathing dragon sitting behind you.
If you expect or want the specific sound of a 6,8,10 or 12 cylinder, well then go and buy a different car...
I chose the GT Silver and like it a lot. If I'd order one again today I would also consider Chalk which was not available outside of PTS at the time.
The full leather interior elevates the cabin to the next level. I had a 718 Boxster loaner with the standard interior and found it lacking premium feel.
I also chose the LED headlights because not only do they look amazing they also light up the road at night nicely. The auto high beams work great.
The PDK is fantastic. It almost always guesses the gear right for you and shifts are instant. The manual would be fun for sure but is not for me at this time.
Sport exhaust system, while pricey is nice and deepens the stock exhaust sound quite a bit when active. I like it but I'm sure there are comparable aftermarket solutions available.
LCA works great. Would order it again.
The GT sport steering wheel is hands down the BEST steering wheel I've ever had in any car - ever. A definite must have for me.
Make sure to test the available seats in person. I found the 14 way to be the best fit and most comfortable for me.
I did order some bling:
- Interior Package Painted. Very nice to look at the interior trim and have it match the mirrors outside.
- Porsche Crest on Headrest. Well because Porsche. Not a must though.
- Door-Sill in Stainless Steel. Very nice addition imho. The standard sills are too short.
- Light Design Package. Adds a couple of LEDs to the interior and makes it look 2017. Very nice.
The Bose sounds system is ok. I did not compare to the standard and the Burmester up-charge was not worth it to me. Most of the time I listen to the glorious engine anyway.
Porsche Connect works great. In the US the cost of onboard nav and connect plus is dumb. Got the Connect option and an iPhone just for the car - for less.
Hope my thoughts are helpful to someone. Now back to driving.
