How much do you guys think that the Porsche 718 will cost? There has been a little bit of speculation as to what the cost will be in Germany. People are saying that it will carry a base price of €39,000 ($53,300 USD). That is literally €10,000 less than the Boxster.
Do you think that sounds right for this vehicle? Do you think that the price will be pretty much the same in NA, or will it be different from the Euro price?
I was reading that the 718 is going to be a vehicle that sits under the Boxster and around the size of cars like the Scion FR-S, Miata, etc, that should already give you a good idea of what to expect.
Pricing on the Boxter starts at $51,400 USD, maybe this will be a Porsche that starts at the low $40k's?
Comparatively to other Porsches, that would be really affordable. Will it be the type of vehicle that has options that increase the price by a huge amount, or are we actually going to be able to buy the 718 at a price that is close to what MSRP is?
Yeah, over here in the UK the boxer is set to be £40,000 and the car mags here expect the Porsche 718 to be just over £30k so £32,000 sounds about right.
The GT86 (In the US you know it as the Scion FR-S) costs £25k so the Porsche will carry a premium over that.
I'm thinking that the price will be cut by trimming down features, but then there will be a lot more options available so that people can have those things back. The price could end up being a lot more expensive than people are expecting.
Entry-level roadster: Porsche developers continue to look at this segment, and a Boxster-based mid-engine roadster named the 718 is under study. If approved, the 718 could arrive as soon as 2016, according to multiple reports. The 718 would be shorter, lighter and less expensive than the Boxster, with unique body panels. It could be the first to receive the four-cylinder boxer engine under development at Porsche. Pricing would start at $45,000 to $50,000.
I think it would be smart for them to stay under $50k. Maybe $46k would be a good place to be so that people might actually be able to leave spending less than $50k.
There's more to it than that.
You have to consider competition, what they're priced like and how this fits into or around that and some others, but that alone should give you a better idea of what to expect and some why behind it.
Are there any vehicles that have yet to come out yet that will be rivals to the 718? Or do we basically know the entire lay of the land for this segment even up to when the 718 actually comes out?
I guess the 718 is pretty much an extension of the trend that we see with luxury car makers making more down market vehicles. We just haven't seen a roadster in that vein yet.
We will see more joining this segment. I heard BMW and Toyota are working on something, BMW might be working more on just 1 roadster, those should make this interesting.
