Not for me they will always remain in the dormant position and are essentially nonfunctional. Porsche could have done better and they may have quietly acknowledged that fact in the 992.

I use mine as a holder for my iPhone on longer trips and I got the idea on this forum.
This way i can see and interact with the phone while driving, it is not the best phone holder in the world but it is free with the car and hides away easily when not in use.

****- that’s what I was going to suggest
I tried it but iPhone 7 drops straight through, how does yours fit?

I quite like the retracting cupholders. Right under the vents is great for keeping a closed can cold on a hot day.

I like 'em too.

Jim, on my second Porsche. The first was a 912 in a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

I use the cup holder near the driver pretty much 100% of the time I am in the car to hold a water bottle. I do wish however that the door bin was big enough to hold a 500 ml bottle instead. The passenger struggles to use the PCM when there is a bottle in the way and for 7 months of the year here in the UK, we need warm air blowing so the bottle gets warm which is a pain

It's pretty sad that Porsche, with all those design engineers, couldn't come up with a more usable cup holder. A first year engineering student could come up with a better design. Embarrassing really.

I use the cupholder if I am in a pinch but I dislike the over-fussy yet floppy design.

For longer trips we bring this along and wedge it between the passenger seat and console. $11 at Amazon
