Hard to say on Youtube ... but it sounds almost like a turbo 6 ... which is impossible. Today, I spoke to my dealer and he told me that they had just received confirmation from a guy at Porsche who knew a guy at Porsche who knew another guy at Porsche who said it was going to be a 4.0l. It looks like pretty reliable information ...

The particulate filters seem to give an odd sound to the exhaust.

At least by posting the video I've discovered I'm not the only one who can't quite get a handle on the sound. I was left genuinely puzzled & still am.

I just listened to the video posted by @Chilli and it not only sounds bad but a tad annoying.

Europe now requires gasoline particulate filters which act like mufflers and are changing the exhaust notes of most gasoline-powered cars. Porsche's omitted them on the US-bound 718s in 2019, but for smaller runs like the GT4 it's not clear yet whether they'll do the extra engineering work to tune the engine management system to run without them.

If not, we'll have to hope Cobb et al. can partner with Soul et al. for a delete kit for US customers.

I'm assuming it to be a flat six, but it's not really making the kinds of noises I would associate with one. That would apply to both normally aspirated or turbocharged & along with "Porsche2018" & "Johan" I can't say I found that pleasant sounding. Hopefully up close & personal it sounds considerably better (fingers crossed). I'm not being dismissive of "sobiloff's" comment about particulate filters altering sound. However I can't say as a U.K resident that I've personally become aware of any sudden sound differences to vehicle types/models. Maybe back to back comparisons would be more revealing, but nothing has so far jumped out at me. I'm not saying that isn't why this particular car sounds so bad, just that I'd be surprised if it was. On the other hand if all U.K vehicles do suddenly start sounding like that then I'm buying shares in an ear plug manufacturer.

Dont forget that the video is still early in the development.
I didn't watch the whole thing but based on the tree foliage, that vid was from last fall.

Way too soon for that question.
It's not been officially announce yet.
And then there's the allocation game.
