2018 Cayman Build Times and Delivery Experience

Hey there! Ordered a standard Cayman PDK in guards red with 20" Carrera S wheels in mid June. It's my first Porsche and I'm pretty psyched! Told the delivery date is scheduled for 9/8 and also was told that they have been running about 10 days ahead of schedule. Are others seeing faster delivery times than initially planned? Also, is the Delivery Experience worth the trip to Atlanta?

Welcome. Yes mine seems to be arriving 7-10days earlier than planned currently scheduled at the end of July. The wait has been brutal and I ordered mine on the 13th May which is quick compared to others I've seen. It will be one of the first 2018's. I'm starting to run out of reviews to read, forums to browse and videos to watch. About to move onto 981 reviews out of desperation.

Right now the wait experience seems to be split for the first run of 2018s being made before the summer plant shutdown at Stuttgart, which starts in mid-July this year. Some, such as yourself and @capeli (and me so far; more on that below), seem to be on track to receive their cars several weeks earlier than originally projected. Others, such as @Porsche2018, are experiencing a delay to early fall. There seems to be two main factors at play:

- Whether or not you received an actual June allocation, and
- As-yet-unidentified special-equipment shortages

I ordered my car (NBM 718 Cayman w/PDK, full beige/black leather, and several major options) on May 27. My dealer was transparent about my order receiving a June allocation -- I was even allowed to see my dealer's monthly allocation slots on screen, in real time. (I like to think that was because I demonstrated fairly deep knowledge about the process ... YMMV, but different dealers -- and different SAs -- will work different ways.) My original delivery date was the first week on October. It is currently the last week in August; my car went to v260 status on June 25 and was on track to be completed and leave the assembly line two days ago.

As long as your 2018 is built and off the line by the end of next week, you'll get your car early. If it isn't, you won't get it until late September at the earliest.

Congrats all on your new cars!

So my sales agent told me in mid-June that the deadline for ordering for Sept 8th delivery was June 21/22nd. He told me that if I waited until after that date, the date would be Oct. Assumed he was being honest, but I placed my order around June 16th either way.

With that said, how are you guys finding out the status of your order? My sales guy isn't sharing much proactively. Are there key dates I should be asking him for?

Thanks!

I'm running out of internet content to read/watch too. It's killing me and I'm only about a month into my wait!!

Interesting. Thanks for the details. I'll have to have figure out the detailed status of my order. I've just been told that it's locked and I can't change the order now, but that's all I know.

BTW - I got the same interior too. Saw the all leather two tone (beige/black) in a 718 showroom car and had to have it. Should look nice with my red (and any color for that matter). It's a very nice interior option.

Ask your SA for a copy of the Order Status sheet. It's also called a "Tracking" sheet. It will have info such as Commission no., Model no., etc. and these columns:
- Event Key (An internal code for order status; the code will start with a 'V' until the car clears Customs in its destination country)
- Event Name (The internal description that corresponds to the Event Key)
- Planned Date (preliminary production target dates for the build; usually tied to the allocation slot)
- Expected Date (updated production target dates based on recent production schedules; should differ from the Planned Date only if there is a delay)
- Actual Date (only filled in if the order has reached that point. This is how you know what build stage your car's at)

Once your car enters the V260 Event Key, the sheet will have a second page with fields for such info as VIN/Engine/Trans no., Port Code, Vessel Name (the ship your car will cross the Atlantic on), and departure/arrival dates, etc.

If your SA refuses to share that sheet, then ask him these specific questions to start:
- What Event Key number is my order currently at, and on what date did it enter that stage?
- When is my order scheduled to be completed and leave the factory (Event Key V300)?
- When is my vehicle scheduled to leave the port of Emden (Event Key V332)?
- Will you supply me with the name of the ship my order will be on, please, when it becomes available?
- Has a VIN been generated yet? (You have a right to know this number as soon as its available)

Thanks for the info. This helps. I'll ask for the order tracking sheet from my SA.
What about the Delivery Experience in Atlanta? Has anyone done that? Is it worth the time? I'm thinking about it but would love to hear more about it.
My car just got delayed. It is finished and sitting at the Port of Halifax. They do not have clearance/certification for EPA and CBP yet and are holding all 2018s.

I saw your other post on this too. Just wow. Is this a Canada issue or US too?
Got an update today. Entered V250 on 7/3 and should enter body shop Monday! About 4 days ahead of plan so far. Pretty exciting!

Car was completed today (V300)! About a week ahead of schedule. Should be at port today too (V331) or Monday. Curious how the shipping schedules work outbound from Emden to Houston. Do they have weekly shipments out?

It takes 1 day to goto port of emden after the factory.

Go here and see which ship is scheduled next for you based on what port is nearest to you.

The PWL Group

On the drop down on the right select your country and then select VW Export to view the PDF Schedule.

You can confirm the ship as well with your SA once it departs. Use Marinetraffic to see where the ship currently is.

All 2018 are delayed at the moment due to EPA so don't expect delivery according to your tracking.

Thanks! Really great info. Looks like I should get on the Goodwood on the 18th. Will have to confirm with my SA.

With that said, I've heard of hold-ups in Canada but are we seeing EPA hold-ups in the US?
I wouldn't assume that your car will be on the 1st ship out of Emden, I did and I disappointed myself 3 times, 3 ships left before mine got onto one. You'll need to annoy your SA to give you a vessel name, and they will know the day it gets on the vessel. Mine is in the Atlantic at the moment on the 'Columbia Hwy'. To be honest this EPA uncertainty has taken some of the excitement out of it.
My 718S is inbound on the Siem Cicero, due to arrive at the Port in Houston on July 31. Dealer contacted me yesterday and stated they were informed all 2018's will be held at port through the end of August if not longer. Not happy.

Bummer for sure. Any specific reason given?
