Hi guys! so I am hopefully soon going to be a proud owner of a 718 Boxster and it will be my first Porsche so this is definitely an exciting time.

My question is i have found a 718 with basically all the options i would spec bar a few.. ones i could do without i guess. It's used with stupidly low miles ( under 1k ) and a great price ( i think? ) OR do i order a new one with a discount MSRP - so far 6%

Or the other option is go for a 2017 S with great options - the used 2018 is 66k the new 2019 MSRP is around 80k and the 2017 S is also around 66k with about 5k miles...

My thoughts are the depreciation hit has been already taken on the 2018... and 2017 would already be 2 years old...

what is everyone else doing?

Keen to know!

IMO--if you want to drive it soon either of the used ones sound good. Look for a good warranty as well.

The S is a bit more powerful--if that matters to you. I have a base and its performance is well beyond what's legal on the roads.

If you have to have new and are prepared to wait 4 months or so--order.

I think if you are happy with base 718 with a few options and they are in good condition then hardly worth buying new and may as well save the money.

If you want something special like a GTS or are going to keep the care for ever or can't find a based model or S with the options you want then order a new one.

Nothing wrong with buying a well-cared for 718 if the price is right. I agree with others that it will be easier to find a used car with PDK than 6 speed.

But just for info I bought a new 718 Cayman (ordered in Aug '18) for $54,800. Mine is "plain Jane" and came with just PDK and nothing else.
I'm loving it!

Thanks guys! Great responses - the 2018 used with 400 miles ( if you can call that used ) has an MSRP of 77k and its going for 66k i think i will stick with it -

its Chalk too which is rarer... looking forward to owning my first porsche! And yes the extra 50bhp i am not too fussed about.

It was more about the 2017 S has PTV, PASM, Chrono etc but not the things i would want day to day.. its also lava orange which looks amazing but its definitely loud!

You have chosen wisely! 400 miles is not "used" it's more like "almost" used..........Enjoy and you have let another person or the dealership eat the depreciation.;)
