Ordered on May 12, 2018. ETA around in November (6+ months of waiting), no lock date yet. I had the option for a 2018 delivery in August; however, since it'll be my first Porsche car... I was willing to wait for the 2019 version. Currently drive a 2010 Honda Accord Coupe that I had for almost 8.5 years, so definitely an upgrade!

Cayman will be my daily driver.

Order details:
  • Exterior Color: White
  • Standard Interior in Black with Leather
  • Packages P9D Premium Package Plus i.c.w. Power Sport Seats (14-way)
  • - Bi-Xenon™ Headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System
  • - Porsche Entry & Drive $0
  • - Automatically Dimming Mirrors with Integrated Rain Sensor
  • - Light Design Package
  • - 2-Zone Automatic Climate Control
  • - Seat Heating
  • - Seat Ventilation
  • Power Folding Exterior Mirrors
  • Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)
  • Sport Tailpipes in Black
  • Extended Range Fuel Tank, 16.9 gal
  • 19" Boxster S Wheels
  • Lane Change Assist (LCA)
  • Heated Multifunction Steering Wheel
  • Power Sport Seats (14-way) with Memory
  • Smoking Package (for extra outlet)
  • Luggage Net in Passenger Footwell
  • Seat Belts in Miami Blue
  • BOSE® Surround Sound System
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Porsche Sport Exhaust (Standard)

I will be having the 19" wheels painted Jet Black with color black centercaps.

The seat belt in Miami Blue is an interesting choice, and not one I would have thought of. Looking at that in the configurator with the black interior they look pretty good - just a nice accent within the car. Nice choice!

Thanks! Yeah, just pure black interior looked a little bland for my taste. I was debating between the Miami blue seat belts or the "Standard Interior in Black/Bordeaux Red with Leather Package". Ended up opting for the Miami Blue seat belts. I debating if I should have the brake calipers done in Miami blue to be fitting...but I haven't really seen pictures with that color choices so probably holding off on that.

I won't be going to the tracks with this car so I don't believe I would really need that or PASM. Unless I hear a more compelling reason to get add that option.
My personal opinion, and I would bounce this off your SA is the impact, if any, not having the SC would have on resale. Now, today, you may say well I want to keep this car until the end of time.......then the Porsche bug bites and you want to get that next latest and greatest model......I personally, and I could be an outlier, would not consider buying a preowned Porsche without both Sports Exhaust & SC.
Though, I completely understand, based upon your intended use, that the performance enhancements* like dynamic engine mounts and the launch control may not interest you.

Your build is very similar to mine but I opted for the 6MT, PASM, and Sport Chrono. Although I have only driven my new Cayman a few miles since Saturday delivery, my spouse and I definitely noticed a difference with PASM from our 2014 981 Cayman with standard suspension. The regular ride is smoother but stiffens up nicely with sport and sport+ (Sport Chrono dial on the steering wheel). Of course, to be honest, this may be also due to a brand new car as opposed to the 24,000 mile 981... We will know more with additional driving time.

In any event, congratulations on what looks like a great build! You too RGM718.

What is interesting in all this is that when I ordered my 2016 Cayman, it was officially ordered in May 2015, and I took delivery about August 18th as memory serves. For my 2019, I placed my order about the same time in May, yet the first allocation that I could get was an October build. Interesting..............

If you decide to sell the car on your own, someone who wants SC won't buy it, but on the other hand, someone who doesn't want it, won't pay more to have it. If you trade it in, the difference in value between one with and one without will be somewhere between nothing, and something less than the cost of the option itself. So, worst case, the only harm done in not ordering it is you "may" limit the number of people who will be interested in the car on the used market, and that's only if you go to sell it yourself. In any case, the car will sell. All cars do.

In my opinion, SC was a must have option on 987 and 981 generation cars. Not as important now that that "sport button" (the "Sport" in "Sport Chrono" in those older generation cars) comes standard.

All that said, I would order SC if you think you want it and you're not forgoing something else to get it.

Interesting debate on the sports chrono. The car I test drove had it and I did use it. My original plan was to spec my own car new and obviously I had a budget. (This changed due to lead times and my local OPC having an unregistered PDK in my first colour choice, also I secured a cracking discount which I would not have gotten if placing an order.)
When looking at various specs, and trying to stay within budget, I never once chose it. My reasoning being that although it was fun, how often would I actually use it?

I asked about resale value/options and the advice I was told at the time was to spec good wheels.

I've only had the car 12 days, one journey with some twisties, rest has been commute to work. Still to have a proper "play" in the car.

...welcome to the forum. Ultimately your personal must have's, and wallet, will be the determining factors but I think you've optioned your base Cayman quite nicely without getting too crazy. Oh, you and I would get along quite well! After all, how can you not love Lava Orange AND a manual transmission...both my personal preferences. How exciting but It'll be here before you know it! (I still have a bit of a wait on my Lava Orange GT4). Keep us all posted and share photos upon delivery! Enjoy!
