In June I was trying to order a new 718 C PDK and the dealer was not able to get an allocation. I was lucky and found an '18 base equipped almost identical to what I would have ordered. And, luckily, after 3000 miles, the car has been flawless. I have heard that Porsche has cut back on production. Has anyone who has ordered a base in the US been able to get a production date? The dealer that I was trying to order the car from never got back to me and I just bought another car from another dealer. It all turned ok for me, but I was just wondering.

Yeah, I provided my deposit in April, seeking late Sep production for Euro delivery. No allocations in July. None so far in August. My flight is already scheduled, so I might show up for a big goose egg.

Maybe it works differently there, or maybe its different because of the collection from factory. And I confess this is my only Porsche so my experience may not be typical.

When I placed my order for collection at the dealership, the sales advisor was able to locate their next available build slots on the Porsche system - I was lucky to get a slot only one month away, but that just meant no more changes to spec at all. We locked it in there and then. I got an email from the dealer before production had even been started to give me an estimated completion date, and a call when the build was delayed (+2 days, no biggie). It took 17 days total from build start to the car leaving the factory.

I would not be too concerned that they can't build your car in time, because they definitely can. A bit puzzling that they haven't given you dates yet though.

I hope your airline ticket is refundable or you planned on going to Germany anyways. If you placed a deposit in April, you should have gotten at least a confirmation if not the car already. The last batches of US market 718 have been showing up at dealerships over the last couple of weeks and there are no more allocations for 718 for 2019/2020. In fact, US dealers have only been told that the only 718 with coming allocations for 2020 will be GT4s and Spyders.

Got this from a friend who works at a Porsche dealership here in the USA. "The factory has stopped manufacturing Caymans and Boxsters. Rumor has it, there will only be a GT4/Spyder and possibly GTS version in the USA for 2020"

I know @Graustark wants to pick up his Cayman overseas, but might be better off renting one there for the fun of driving and find one here in the US that he can take delivery on. I searched the US portal and there's still plenty available. Probably get a good discount now that the model year is nearing an end. I always bought cars in the Fall when the new models were introduced and dealers still had inventory to rid themselves of.

Here's a start :) Autotempest.com

It seems like they're just fixing an over supply problem. They still show the 718base and S in the configurator.
I think that's mainly because 2019 models are still available for purchase new. It doesn't mean that they are still being built. They still need to encourage potential customers to head to their dealerships and perhaps take an inventory or pre-owned unit.

Porsche is shifting around their production facilities and the 718 4 cyl. models are moving--that's why there are none being produced at present.

BTW, dealers get no advanced notice--Porsche keeps all information 'close to their chest' until it's time for public announcements.

Yeah, I'll be in Germany anyway for a guys' trip incl Oktoberfest and Prague. If no more base 2020 718s are being built that would be very significant. If I cannot get a build in time for the trip, I think I will request my deposit back.

Who knows when base of S 718s will be able to be built again? Spyders and GT4 are whole other animals. Neither are daily drivers (for most).
