Hello! I’m a first time poster, have lurked around occasionally. So happy to join you all! I’ve always been curious about the brand but just recently put a deposit down for a base cayman. I am beyond excited as this will be not only my first Porsche, but also my first ever build, and first proper sports car as well.

When I put my deposit down, I was given a build date sometime in March with delivery projected to be around June/July. Is that typically how long it takes for delivery after the car is built? Anyone ever get an earlier delivery date than predicted?

Thank you!

Welcome to the forum and congrats! It takes time to get from the factory to safely stowed on board the ship... then the time to come across the Atlantic, next it goes through inspecting and import, your dates sound about right, typically for North America those on the east coast get the quickest delivery, everybody out west it takes a bit longer. As for receiving it earlier, can't rule it out but I wouldn't count on it.

Consider yourself lucky not to be on the west coast of Canada, it comes by boat into Halifax and then put on a train for the journey to this side, then for me it has to be offloaded from the train, loaded on a truck then another boat for the trip to the island I live on... you grow a little older waiting for it! ?

Welcome! I ordered my 2018 Cayman on 19 February, it was built in March, and we took delivery on 18 May. I was fortunate to not have to wait for an allocation since the dealer was able to swap a Boxster allocation with another dealer for a Cayman allocation.

It's all in the luck of timing. I ordered my Cayman March 19 and picked it up mid May. They had a slot with 3 days before finalizing the build. We changed it to the spec I wanted. Was supposed to arrive late June.

Oh wow that was quick! Right now I’m in V200 status and was told that the earliest delivery for the 20s are in June/July...but then I only spoke to 2 dealers so I’m not sure if anyone else heard otherwise.

I was able to get a build slot within an hour of putting the deposit down. My SA sent me my commission number and it showed V200 status. But despite that, the build date is still some time in March. Maybe they’re a little slower this year? Also are you from the east coast? I wonder if my being on the west coast affects my delivery date as mentioned above. Hoping a similar spec would come in earlier though!

I am on the east coast mid Atlantic. The ship unloads in Boston and the cars get trucked here.

I placed a preliminary order for a 2020 Cayman T without a deposit to hold one in the system for me. Actual order will be placed this Spring with first shipments arriving in the June/July timeframe. Some of the 2020 Cayman GT4's and Spyder's may arrive before then.

My car came much much sooner than expected! I picked up at 2019 Cayman 2 nights ago and absolutely love it. I'm still getting used to the low ground clearance and harsher ride than my sedan that I traded in. There are some compromises since this is my only car, though with my significant other having a Macan helps quite a bit. Nevertheless, it'll take a while for me to adapt to the much smaller trunk space(s) and mastering the art of approaching speed bumps and dips from an angle.

I quickly realized the 718BS’s combined frunk/trunk capacity is far greater than I expected. Hopefully, that will be your experience too.

Regardless, enjoy your fabulous new ride!

Westcoaster ... I assume you live on VI as well. My Cayman left the factory Mar 2, departed Emden Mar 23, and was delivered to me in Victoria April 18. On the other hand, I had a BMW go missing in Vaughan ON rail yards for several weeks. Best be lucky.

Yep, on the island, congrats on the new Cayman, let's hope this one does a non-stop through Ontario! The end of April is a great time to take delivery of a new Porsche. (y)
