I watched the unvailing of the ME Corvette last night. 495 bhp, dct, 2 trunks like the 718, targa top, You can see the engine thru clear engine cover, 0 to sixty in under 3 seconds, price starting under $60,000. Some potential 718 buyers might go to Corvette & I might be one of them after paying $1100 for the year 2 service on my 718C.

I don't typically like US styling, but the C8 is more appealing to me than previous models. Nonetheless, there are still trademarks of over-styling that seem to make parts of it look cheap. The stealth bomber angles will draw a certain crowd and the rear end could use some help. Interior, heck, I have enough problems with the few buttons in the 718 - holy crap on the C8 - push a button and hope! But, if the car performs, then all of that will not be important. Time will tell.

The C8 is impressive. If the it delivers on its specs, it will be very difficult to match. I'm seriously considering it. Quality is an open question, especially as a brand new platform, one that's new to the team.

After 2 years my Porsche dealer can't make the auto temp stay whear I left it, I leave it on 70 and next time I start the car its on 73 degrees. The auto seat adjust thats supposed to go where the buttons on the door are set doesn't work. Ihave a 2015 Stingray Callaway 3LT Z51 that I'ne never had issues with. It is much quieter but that could be michelin vs perelli tires. I like my 718 C. I prefer smaller flickable cars.

The temp settings sync with the key, not 1 or 2.

I have absolutely no problems with any of the settings. My dealer, on delivery, showed me how to set up everything and we set the car to my preferences at that time. Some I have changed since.

If your dealer can't make stuff work then it's clear you need a new dealer--and possibly a warranty claim.

If Porsche drops the turbo 4s, after promising us how great it was (and then breaking trust) I could see this being my next car. I mean everyone says sound really matters, right? So their little GPFd 6 sounds like crap next to a big old V8...

As a result of the above, I've already made the same decision. For long term ownership vs depreciation and total Cost of ownership, aftermarket support etc. I'm going to jump ship. Already on the c8 waiting list. Especially after seeing the rapid depreciation of the 718's. Easy decision to make.

Depreciation is my single biggest complaint about my GTS. Almost 30 grand on a mint 2300 mile example. Very disappointed.

Is there any data to suggest that 718 depreciation is higher than 981 depreciation was?
I'll have to look but I believe the information is available from different sources. I have seen both but I don't recall them off hand. That said, using different sources may not give totally accurate results. Also, looking at NADA values may give some idea.

Yup. In my area (GTA) it's the Autotrader showing the 981 selling on par with the 718 of similar ilk and mileage even though the 718 is newer, still under warranty and arguably the better car. All of this send me rocketing to the c8. Love my 718, I really do although I will feel a sense of relief once I trade it in on a brand new c8 that I will keep for the long haul.

That unfortunately was my first reaction.
Well, frankly then you should question the 718 as well since it starts at about the same price point. I drive both a 718 Boxster and a C7 Stingray and both have been bulletproof. However one has had two recalls and the other has had none. Guess which one had the recalls? Not bashing but I think the logic is flawed. The engine is essentially the same as last gen C7 just revised and I’m sure quite a bit of other tech transfer took place despite the car being “all new”. We are all driving a 718 with a new flat four and things seem okay.

Well, it's like stocks. You only lose if you sell!?
True....with the amount of depreciation with the 718, it looks like I’ll be keeping it for the duration.
Back in May I started looking into selling my GTS and getting something else. I paid 95k for my highly optioned example. Vroom offered 68k for the car with 2000 miles on the clock. Couple of dealers offered even less on trade value.
After this thread, I ran it through KBB instant cash offer and they offer 59k. One of the buying dealers contacted me this morning and I entertained the salesman for a bit in discussion and he said they’d be willing to go up to 60k if it was a trade in.

I owned a Dodge Challenger Scat Pac for two years. Paid 39k for the car, two years of ownership and over 3000 miles on it and got $34,500 in an outright sale to KBB. A Dodge, mind you and only $4500 in real depreciation in two years.

I really had hoped the Cayman would hold value better than it has. With the recent release of the new GT4 and speculation about Porsche maybe rereleasing a six in the Cayman, it makes me wonder what will happen to 718 value going forward.
