Yesterday I came back from a quick trip north a couple of states. I'm amazed at the gas milage I'm getting. Attached is a snapshot of the milage I got. 37.2 mpg is crazy with this car IMO. Are y'all seeing the same thing?

Also, while there I took a photo while on a little drive down the Blueridge Parkway. Do these cars have a bad angle? I don't think so.

There were times I averaged around 35mpg when I drove at a reasonable pace but I must admit I did that very infrequently. It was hard to drive sedately with my CS so my gas mileage often suffered.......but it was worth every penny!:D

I've got 29.7 without even paying attention. So I know it will get in the 30s.

Never would have thought this would be the most economical car in the house...

I averaged 30 MPG on my "Doc Hollywood" trip to Atlanta and back (see that thread in the pictures subforum). The first fourth of that trip was the tail end of break-in, so I took it easy ... but after that, there were many, many, many car passes on two-lane backroads, lots of twisties in Sport or Sport Plus, and averages of 75-80 mph when traveling.

Next week I embark on a National Park/great roads tour of Colorado. Six days, 3,200 miles, high altitudes (Independence Pass, Million Dollar Highway, U.S. 34/Estes Park, and planning on climbing both Mt. Estes and Pikes Peak in the 718), and more. I'm really curious what kind of mileage I'll see ...

... and yep: there'll be a photo post when I get back. :p

That is great mileage. Here is the picture from my first tank of gas which got over 32 mpg. And the second picture shows the mileage from the entire trip Atlanta PEC to Fort Lauderdale, Fl.

None of the results reported (either extreme) are surprising, considering:

A) on-boost effective displacement (relative to power) of a Porsche 3.8 liter n/a flat-six
B) off-boost displacement of a 2.5 liter n/a four

Apparently a lot of critics drive it like A and expect to see fuel-consumption like B.

I have not seen these mpg numbers (CS PDK). On trips I drive in non-sport manual and cruise at 75-85. Maybe if I drove in auto with the coasting mode it would help. On my last trip from Lodi,CA to Carmel, in town driving , driving down Hwy 1,and return, I got just above 28 mpg ( which is fine for me ). Considering the overall performance of the 718S, I think that the mpg is outstanding.
I don't like the feeling of the engine in seventh gear at below 1800 rpm. I know I am sacrificing a little mpg, but I am old school and considering that I plan to put a lot of miles on my car, I like to make a habit of letting the engine run smoothly. I drive a lot at 1800 rpm, but in seventh and on freeways, I don't leave it in seventh below 60 mph.

What RPM does that tach sit at when you're going 75mph?

I think in my VW GTI, it is 3,000, which is a bit high IMO, especially since gears 5 and 6 are way too similar to each other. There is no real overdrive / eco-gear option in the top / 6th gear. That is definitely a factor in getting good consumption numbers.

The best I have gotten in my GTI is around 37 mpg on the freeway, if I stay around 55 mph. I get about 21 mpg in city driving.

This is typical of pretty much any turbocharged car with a reasonably powerful engine -- even one that's not tuned for a flat torque curve, as the 20mpg I averaged in a 2009 Subie WRX that I used to own attests to.

I average between 16-19 mpg in my 718 around town. That jumps to 23-25 MPG if I'm driving consistently in town at 25-45 mph. The highway is where the best gains are seen, primarily because of that 7th PDK gear, I'm sure (can't tell you for certain what it turns at 75MPH, but Im' pretty sure it's around 2,700 RPM.)

My commute is a mix of Los Angeles' worst freeways and some street driving. I have been averaging an extraordinary 24 to 25 MPG on my daily commutes (miles driven/gallons put in the car), though the trip computer says I have been averaging about 2 MPG more. I don't understand how the trip computer can be so consistently wrong. But the real problem is that I am on fumes when the gas gauge says I still have about 50 miles left. Every car I have ever owned has been conservative in the other direction so that you are told you are almost out of gas when you have about two gallons still in the tank. Very annoying.
