I’ve recently noticed a sound behind me when braking. It usually happens around downshifts from 3->2->1. I’ve wondered if it’s just the transmission or just being so close to the engine and being able to hear that. Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe it’s normal for mid-engine sports cars?

Just wanted to see what others think before considering a service visit so soon

PDK gearbox?

In very slow traffic mine can feel a bit clunky compared to a more-traditional toque-convertor automatic.

Yup sounds like normal PDK transmission noise. I would be worried if it doesn't clunk anymore.

SA said it seems like the same thing. I won't worry about it for now. He asked if it would shutter, so I'm going to assume that's when it's an issue.

Mine has the same “clunk” metalic sound on the 2-1 downshift. I googled it and seems like it is completely normal. I had a Audi S4 with a DSG trani before this. The sister duel clutch trani to the PDK. There was also a small clunk in the same gear change. Just not as loud.

Dual Clutch always will have that noise when down shift to 2nd or 1st. BMW's DCT will even jerk quite a bit ~

Normal...that’s the PDK, and it was the same with prvious generation of Cayman/Boxster. After a few weeks, you will forget about it...

I’ll have to listen more carefully when my car returns from getting PPF. I have about 3000 miles on the car and thought the clunk was the brakes, not the transmission.

I also experienced this my first week. Read that it was normal, but thought “Is it avoidable”? After a few tests, I seemed to have mastered it, but it takes a little practice.

When the downshift from 2nd to 1st is about to happen (and you’re slowing to a full stop), a lighter rather than firm application of the brake all but eliminates the clunk (for me). At first I thought it was my imagination, but I can now repro it almost every time. It feels like it now eases into 1st rather than throwing you in. After only a couple of days, muscle memory took over and now it rarely happens.
