I picked up my 718C GTS a few days ago. When I ordered it I didn't think the sport mirrors folded...and didn't really care. But then I found myself squeezing into a really tight parking spot and thought it would be nice if the mirrors folded just to avoid a possible mishap.

I looked for a button but found nothing. I then tried to fold them in manually but didn't want to snap them off...also no luck.

I looked in the manual and it clearly show a button to fold the mirrors but there is no button in my car and no mention in the owner's manual that the folding mirrors are an option. It also says the mirrors can be folded manually but I am hesitant to force them without confirmation that the mirrors are in fact folding in a US base spec.

Anybody have info? Thanks in advance.

I suspect they will fold manually, but I specifically ordered my GTS with power folding mirrrors and haven't tried folding them by hand. Every other car I've owned had manually folding mirrors, most just have a bit of spring tension to overcome, first.

They fold manually. I was worried that I would snap them off when I first tried. There is a video on the App that I downloaded for the drivers manual and also on youtube...it’s easy to fold.

I am not sure why you would need folding mirrors. If I am in a tight space, I am far more likely to bump the outer edge of the door into the obstacle. I think my mirrors are several inches away from hitting anything, since they are closer to the hinge. Since the car is so low and I am fairly wide ☹, I have a hard time with narrow parking places.

The mirrors fold manually whether or not you have the power-fold option. It's a safety feature.

And, FYI: If you do have the power-fold option and manually fold the mirrors, you can use the power feature to unfold them. You'll just have to press it twice -- and after the first press, you'll hear a loud plastick-y 'pop' as the motor slots the adjustment nub back into place.

It's not so much the danger of you bumping something with the mirrors as it is someone bumping the mirrors: with an opening car door, with a hip or arm when walking by, etc. The only exception to this I can think of is drive-thrus that have crash pillars or overhangs that prevent you from pulling too close to where you need to reach through the window to get to.

I looooove my power-folding mirrors. So do the neighbors that park next to me in my condo building. :)

Parking next to you!

Never!

If I lived there I'd buy two inflatable rubber "cars" and park between them. :)

Here's an example of my typical parking strategy when I am not in my own driveway (my car likes this......my bum knee, not so much). ;)

Actually, you are supposed to park all the way at the end of the lot so there is only one parking space adjacent to your car and that spot would have the driver of the other car exiting on the side away from your car.

But you can guarantee that it would be a people wagon and they take their screaming, snotty nose brats out form your side, scratching and snotting their way down the side of your carefully, out of the way, parked Porsche.
