Yes I get the same impression with demand in the U.K & Europe it seems like they can have upto a 10-12month wait for them based on what I'm reading on another forum. I don't think I could wait that long for one. That could mean less supply or more demand, but by the activity on this other forum I get the impresssion it's more demand.

From torquenews:
"In March 2017, Ford Motor Company sold 9,120 examples of the mighty Mustang while General Motors sold just 7,052 examples of the Chevrolet Camaro and FCA sold only 6,225 examples of the Dodge Challenger. Mustang sales were down sharply from the 12,563 sold in March 2016, but with 9,120 units sold, that is more than enough to comfortably outsell each of the key competitors in the segment."

Just one small snippet of what could be going on industry-wide. Sounds good for Mustang at first but year over year not so much. Competition is stiff all around. Food for thought.

I came across a recent article on Q1 car sales in general (carsalesbase.com), which provided sales figures in multiple markets including Europe for every individual segment. I took screen shots for the large & small sports car segments relative to the European market. .............................. I took a 300 mile joy ride in my Boxster on Tuesday & during that trip called into my nearest Porsche dealer (120 miles away in any case). I was struck by the number of 718 Boxster's & Cayman's for sale brand new off the showroom floor. Mainly base models but also a few S models as well. Very few examples of any other model were available. It may be nothing, but to me it would suggest that 718's are very easily available when they have the need to fill up empty showroom space................On a footnote, there was a Carmine Red Cayman with gloss black wheels in the showroom, what a combination, it looked absolutely stunning.

52 caymans sold in all of Europe? That's like one per country. Sounds odd. But yet there were 1948 boxter's sold. I would not expect the numbers between the two body styles to be that different. It's in my nature to question everything I read.

I too agree those figures seem low, but in the U.K it's only very rarely that you'll ever see a Cayman on the roads. Although I owned a 987 Cayman myself, it was the only one I'm aware of local to me at the time. Boxster's aren't exactly common either for that matter, but for every Cayman I'll see a few dozen of the equivalent model Boxster. So far the only place I've actually seen a 718 (982) Cayman is sat in a dealership, I've yet to see one out on the road at all. But like I say that's not just the latest models, but applies to all versions since its inception. That certainly wouldn't put me off buying one though, it's a great car...................... I should also point out that with my 987 Cayman it didn't have any detrimental effect when I came to selling it either (it actually kept it's value extremely well).

If I wanted a turbo flat-4 I would buy a Subaru.

Because then my Subaru would sound like a Subaru.

Actually, strike that, my Subaru would sound like a Porsche.

It will be interesting to fast forward five years and see that the retained value on the 6cyl Cayman/Boxsters
will be significantly greater than the 4cyl.

That's because the flat 6 is better. And sings gloriously. Nobody can take that away from it.

My secret plan is to wait for the roads to be littered with cheap grenaded turbo4's, pick up a Cayman for cheap
and drop in an LSVette motor. Then I'll have a Porscholet (Chevorsche?)

That sounds like a Vette. Actually, the Vette will never hear it for long. All it will see is taillights.

Disappearing through a cloud of tire smoke.

No, wait, by then the Vette will have committed seppuku and gone the way of the Ford GT.

Turbo V6.

So then the Vette will sound like an Ecoboost F150.

Meanwhile, the other day, a new turbo 4 'Stang blasted by me with straight pipes.

Honest to god - it sounded like a Black and Decker leaf blower with a stuck reed valve.

So sad....

LOL......IMHO.....The name Porsche just sounds sooooo much better than Subaru, and Porsches are much more of a classier car than a Subaru will ever be......

Your pet must be a Jakalope too.....

Troll.

No one asked you, and no one cares here. GTFU until you actually drive a 718 and know why only dolts compare it to a Subie.

(FWIW: I've owned a Subaru WRX and an STi. The 718 has far, far more in common with a Lotus and an Alfa Romeo than either of those cars. If you were educated, experienced, and anything resembling objective about motor vehicles, you'd know this.)

Reported. Buh-bye!
