This video further reinforces my belief that both the Spyder and GT4 will be turbocharged flat fours. I just can’t see how Porsche would go back to a flat six after making an emphatic statement of intent by bringing back the 718 moniker.

Interestingly, when presenting Porsche’s 2017 annual financial report they said the strategy for the next ten years was to continue with a three pronged approach, incorporating optimised combustion engines, hybrid models and purely electric sports cars.

@porkey why don’t you use the emojis that are to the right of the advanced text/message box? I know there aren’t a lot of options but at least that way everyone should be able to see them :nerd:

To take the current turbo-four 2.5 to 400-420 peak hp -- if that's indeed the target, which sounds right based on the previous generation -- requires nothing more than a (proper) ECU tune, judging by Erhesmann Engineering's stage 1 S result. Why go to the trouble of re-plumbing what is now exclusively a 911 GT3 engine into the 718 while detuning it to 'acceptable 718 power' that is easily in reach of the existing turbo? It never made sense to me, but then Porsche seems inclined to defy (more like ignore) expectations.

If Porsche has gone the detuned n/a route, we'll have the interesting phenomenon of tuned 718 S/GTS turbos pulling away from stock GT4/Spyders on track and strip.

I don't know if this possible, but why not stroke the 2.5, 2.8 maybe? Apparently the new GTS sounds much better than my '17CS( if sound is that much of a problem). They're probably afraid to alienate the flat six group.

4 or 6, it is likely to be superb. My 718 may develop an inferiority complex if the new beast is a 6... and besides, it would be great to see Porsche demonstrate its technical prowess by pushing the envelope on 4-cylinder engines.

It would have to add a power top to tempt me from my Boxster S. I don't get how anyone really wants to pull over to the side of the road and get out of the car to raise/lower the top...no matter how fifties-retro. In the real-world that translates to spending less time driving top-down -- not a good thing for a roadster.
