Hello
I currently have a Porsche Boxster 718 and I'm eyeing for a 911 that everyone says to be the grail of Porsche.
I think on the forum there are people who have gone from a Boxster or a Cayman to a 911 but are there people who went from the 911 to a Boxster or a Cayman.

Apart from the price, what are the arguments that preach in favor of one or the other range?
Thank you for your answers and have a nice weekend

I went from a 2012 991 C2S to an almost new 718 CGTS

I have had 6 911's before so it is not like I did not know what 911's were like

I could not afford a 991 GTS and wanted a newer car

for me I have lost nothing but gained a lot - speed, handling, balance, smaller size, more of a sports car, better looks and a lot newer set of tech in use

if I could have afforded £100k comfortably I suspect that I would have bought a 991.2 GTS but I couldn't so that was a bit of a moot point

if you have never owned a 911 then I would certainly not dissuade you (probably would encourage you in fact) from getting one but just be sure you are buying the better car for your needs and not the history alone

I went from a 718C GTS to a 911 Carrera T. It was hard to give up the 718, but at the moment I do not need two Porsche’s ....at the moment ;)

The 718C is a great handling car, as everyone knows and just looks so “sexy” , especially it’s profile. The 911 doesn’t quite have that hunkered down look (low stance) of the 718.

I have no regrets getting into a very lightly used Carrera T. The biggest thrill I get, which for me was lacking in the 718, is the engine note. Totally subjective, so there is no right or wrong answer. The T sounds amazing thru it’s entire rev range. I like the sound of the turbos spooling up and shifting gears and towards the top of the rev limiter it changes character with hints of a GT sound. Hard to describe, but there are some videos on YouTube that pick up the sound very well, so you get an idea. It’s a very good engine, even though “only” 370 hp. It roars to life on cold start before it settles down. I park in an indoor lot , so the sound is amplified. The neighbors must think I’m trying to show off, but it has some of that 911 sound.

For driving dynamics, they are both equally satisfying. So, in the future, I will be on the hunt for a preowned 718C GTS. I will wait for the prices to depreciate more. It would be nice to have both a rear engine and mid engine Porsche.

Edit: yes, I still lurk on this forum :)
