Greetings,

Perhaps some of you have been considering taking your 718 to the track? I was, and so I did it.

I went to Mosport Speedway in Ontario yesterday. I can tell you it was great fun, and I highly recommend giving your 718 a run on a track. Here's one of my laps:

The app I am using on my phone is Race-Chrono, does all the overlays for you, and has all the tracks in North America pre programmed in. You'll see it even displays your position on the track top left.

A few other details, you'll hear me talking to someone, that is my instructor, who rode with me on every session which are 20 mins long and I drove six sessions. There are three groups, novice, intermediate, and advanced. I am in the novice group for obvious reasons. I did have to buy track insurance, your regular insurance will not cover you for this. If you go into the wall at these speeds, your car will be a write off, that is the reality.

I didn't do anything special to the car, I am running on the stock Pirelli P-Zeros, and had the oil the break fluid changed the day before I ran. You'll see me hit 200KM hour on the back stretch.

Great stuff happy to see you using the car the way it was meant to be driven! (y)
Mosport is my home track, I get out there often.

What club were you out with?
I was surprised that you had an instructor in car, most clubs (PCA and Trillium) are running solo events only right now.

Hi great to see the 718 on track - I tracked mine at Goodwood UK last month and my boxster T did not disgrace itself against GT3s and GT4s - in fact I was hitting same speed on straight as in my 911( 997) GTS but about 25 mph down on my 991 GT3 - and handlng on fast corners felt great - have 2 more track days in August , Brands and Silverstone F1 circuit - was apprehensive on the Pirelli as I don’t rate them as good as Michelin especially the cup 2 I’ve run previously but I must say they were very good on the 718 and stood up well to a day use with very little deformation or wear unlike previous tack days on Pirelli ?

Hi David
very impressed by the quality of your dash cam - i don’t use one of these , a lot of Porsche’s on club track days don’t - of course some do , but the majority of people on the Porsche Club track days don’t - you are not allowed to time yourself on circuit As it’s a track day not a race or testing day [ does not mean we drive slowly !!!!!] - ( don’t know if thats the same for you guys?) - some UK circuits are strict about this also even if gopro double tethered/ secured - however I’m going to look into the app you use as it looks good . of course you have the sports Chrono for lap timing and the Porsche precision track app also.

That's interesting.....every single car at the track that day had a go pro on it, or a phone app like I used. Certainly none of the officials had any issues with it.
