A Porsche 718 Render

I hope that "unique" isn't a euphemism for lower quality. Will people be disappointed if the 718 ends up being a worse Boxster?

My guess is the 718 will be introduced much like the Macan with a 718 S and 718 Turbo designation. They both will be turbo 4-cylinders with the Turbo getting a higher degree of performance and cosmetic upgrades. Maybe the rear panel air cooler slots will be an option on the checkbox list as Porsche loves to do so well.

Personally, I like the slots better than not having them. Gives it a character different that of the Boxster.

I want them to make styling choices to make it different from the Boxster, but I'm not sure about the slots. I'd rather see some other differences in order to make the 718 unique.

That's what i'm hoping for, along with seeing a test mule sometime this year, at least with the mule we can get an idea of where they may be going with the design.

If those "slots" were on the 718, we definitely wouldn't see them on a test mule. They would have camo over a design feature like that for sure.

But, yes, a test mule would be cool to see driving around.

unless it has to do with air flow, which in that case covering it may not be an option, but covering everywhere else with camo would make seeing the slot in detail a bit hard from a picture.

They might also be able to cover it with mesh so that air could still get through instead of leaving it completely uncovered. Only some more spy shots can give us the answer!

I almost guarantee we'll never see a test mule. 718 is basically a boxster underneath, they can probably do most of the development work under a boxster body and we wouldnt know a thing

I just hope it's something they include on the production model.

Even the renders you guys are posting are not fundamentally different than as Boxster...

O, I really like the rear vents there. That is also a detail from the old 718, and this render does a great job of updating it for the new 718.

Not a fan of it. It looks like they took lights off of an S-Class and shrinked it to fit on a Porsche body.

I'm not really a fan of the taillights on this most recent render, but like I said, I do like the rear vents. The taillights just don't look like they are for Porsche. Looks like they should be on a Pontiac or something.

Me neither. I think porsche can come up with tail light as small as that which look great but this really isn't cutting it.

They should.
It would be interesting to see what exactly they can come up with, even if it has just a small hint of the original 718
