Accessorizing a BGTS - what do you recommend?

702 Views 17 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  PhilH930
My BGTS won't arrive until late July but want to plan ahead on getting accessories and wanted to get some advice here on what to get and where to get them.

1. Indoor car cover (I won't drive much in fall/winter)
2. Trunk/Frunk Liners
3. Dash Cam - which make/model? I bought the option "Pre-wiring for Porsche Dashcam (front)" - will this fit other non-Porsche cam?
4. Paint protection film -- would you do whole car or full front only?
5. anything else?

TIA

1. The genuine Porsche indoor cover is nice
2. Do you plan to put dirty things in trunk? I can't say I really ever even open mine.
3. Not for me.
4. Full front only. I wouldn't drive my car at all until this gets done.
5. Clear font side marker lights.

I did what's referred to as "Track Pack"
-full front
-mirror housings
-rocker / vent quarter panel
-rear wheel fender lip / lower bumper
1. Make sure it's really clean before putting a cover on it. IMO.
2. The covers that go on the inside top of trunk/frunk are nice to help prevent a dent if you accidentally overfill or leave something on ledge. I just bought a foldable carry box that matched the size of the frunk. Helps keep stuff from rolling around when you get frisky on a corner and makes a nice carry case.
3. I don't use dashcams.
4. I PPF'd my whole car but live in New England and drive it year round with highway commute. Get a good installer that does custom fit and limits use of templates - watch out for dealer supplied hacks.
5. Enjoy it!!!
  • Sunshade (suncoast parts)
  • Zunsport of similar grill covers
  • Exhaust collar mod parts from Mcmaster Car (although just removed mine and love the induction sound being the dominant one)
  • Wireless Carplay adapter if you're an Apple user/carplay fan. Slight lag but you get used to it
  • Porsche convertible soft top protectant spray - easy to reapply after a wash or every 3-6 months.
  • Chemical guys convertible roof cleaner spray and brush. Yet to use the soft brush, but can vouch for the cleaner after a spot clean
  • One more - lint rollers!
Here’s the list of all the things I collected during my 12 month wait for my GTS:

Lid liners
Trunk and frunk liners
Ultimate Cupholders
Zunsport grills
Porsche indoor cover
Porsche rubber floor mats
Clear wind deflector
1 quart of C40 mobile 1 oil which was somewhat hard to find
I did a garmin mini 2 dash cam. I used the Dongar technologies wiring harness. It’s $30 or so and installed in about 15 minutes. You might be forced to the Porsche dashcam with the pre wire though.
I also got several quotes for ppf and ceramic while I waited too.
I was able to pick up some of this stuff on sale or new/unused from other people on this forum and rennlist while I researched what I needed.

If it’s indoors, why do you need a car cover? I would be more worried about scratches putting the cover on and off than dust.

2. Trunk/Frunk Liners
I had planned to purchase the full size frunk liner sold through Suncoast, but decided otherwise because I didn't want to lose some of the space that liner takes up. Instead, I went with the WeatherTech cargo/trunk liner. I'm happy with my decision. Just an alternative to consider.

I didn't think about the sidewall thickness of the front trunk liner but it can't be that thick that would result in a large loss of space, is it? I also have WeatherTech in my miata today and they are good quality.

Good question, I've never owned a car cover before and am not familiar with how heavy the cover is

so to compare with a boxster, you did almost everything except for the 2 doors and rear trunk like area? Why not the 2 doors?

Also would anyone mind sharing what it costs you to put on XPEL Ultimate film?

What is was the average quote for ppf/cerami if you don't mind sharing?

I have the full size frink liner and you do lose some cargo space with it. With the liner in place I can't put my carry-on bag in the frunk because it's about 1" too narrow. Without the liner in place the carry-on bag fits. Here is a write-up I did when I first got my Box and I put the liners in place:

My BGTS won't arrive until late July but want to plan ahead on getting accessories and wanted to get some advice here on what to get and where to get them.

1. Indoor car cover (I won't drive much in fall/winter) - If you're not going to drive it that's fine. Make sure you wash the car first then cover it with a good quality indoor cover. The Porsche one is very good quality.
2. Trunk/Frunk Liners - I have them but the front one does take up some space but you can remove it to put suitcases in. If you're worried about spills Weathertech has a lower profile one but I don't know anything about it.
3. Dash Cam - which make/model? I bought the option "Pre-wiring for Porsche Dashcam (front)" - will this fit other non-Porsche cam? - I wouldn't get the Porsche dash cam. Too bulky and the pre-wire doesn't work for other cameras.
4. Paint protection film -- would you do whole car or full front only? - I got a Track Pack PPF coverage and ceramic over that.
5. anything else?

I also got the clear front side lights for my GT Silver car. It just looks better than the amber color lenses standing out. I bought the FitCamX. It mounts on the rearview mirror housing a looks like a factory accessory. Like many others I got the front/rear trunk lid liners. (These may or may not be for your model, example only) These will protect the bottom of the front/rear trunk lids from dents protruding through to the top of the front/rear trunk lids in case you stack stuff too high in the car. I also got a dongle to make the CarPlay wireless. Any of the wireless CarPlay dongles can be finicky so if you don't like that just use the cable attachment. I got a set of low profile 12V USB chargers for the passenger footwell for traveling so my wife can charge her phone if needed.

Quote 1:
Full Wrap $4,675
The partial nose kit (leading edge of the hood, fenders, mirrors, and full front bumper) $850
The full front clip (full hood, full fenders, mirrors, and full front bumper) $1,550
The lower sides package (rockers panels / behind rear wheels) $575
Ceramic was $1,100 or $550 with full wrap

Quote 2:
Track Pack and Ceramic $3,485

Quote 3:
Full Wrap $6,000 + 850 for Ceramic
Full Front $1,850 + $1000 for Ceramic
Track Pack $2,450 + $1000 for Ceramic

I'm in the midwest.

I just had two quotes of a full car PPF for my incoming GTS. Stek was $6k and $1000 to ceramic over the PPF. I had another installer told me $5,500 for Kavaca and another $500 to ceramic coat over the PPF. I also plan on doing a ceramic coating over the entire interior leather and that was $400

The below rennlist thread is the best starting place, but is 30+ pages deep now. It is worth the backstory reading at pace, and once you get 150+ posts in you start to learn more about the specific parts and positioning on car. I'll refer you to post 176 of the thread where 981KMAN lists the recommended products - the ones I opted for are 316 stainless steel (second link below).

I've played with the position of these collar mods from very open to midpoint to my current preference of minimal spacing (the width of a quarter). I've also learned the importance of not overtightening as they will strip, and the use of quality tools (switched to diamond tip allen wrenches, 2.5mm).

I'm assuming you are UK based on the profile flag - PM me if I can help here as visit UK almost monthly.
