So, with leather trim the aluminium-colored strips are made of leather?
The photo above is not from my actual car, but I noticed a lot (or all?) base models have this difference and so does mine. The dashboard has the nice coloured strips, but the doors are blanc.
I will be picking up the car next Monday, so I haven't been able to check in detail. Just wondered of these parts can be replaced to make the aluminium strip thing complete :)

This is very interesting and may very well be a 2020 model year change. I have full leather on my base 2018 and retained the aluminum-look door trim.

The reason it's interesting is because that door trim is the one aluminum-look interior-trim element that cannot be swapped out as an individual part. One must replace the entire door panel. It's the one reason I haven't replaced my interior trim with either the brushed aluminum option or the body-color option.

(Also missing in those configurator images: the aluminum-look trim that surrounds the bottom edges of the door pull. Those also can't be swapped out.)

Honestly, OP, I'd consider yourself (and anyone else who orders a 2020) lucky that your potential car won't have it.

I think I can help here. This has nothing to do with your car being a base model, it has to do with your leather trim level.

Without specifying full leather there is no trim on your doors (i.e. they are plastic); if you specify full leather trim then your chosen trim level (for e.g. the standard aluminium, brushed aluminium, carbon fibre etc.) is extended to include the doors. This is why the optional aluminium, carbon fibre etc trims are more expensive if you have specified full leather.

I also know that unlike the dash and centre console trim, the door trims cannot be added to or changed later (unless you go third party and opt for a stick on bit of trim).

Hope this clears things up.

Another quirk. The trim around the door pull/speaker area is related to the sound package you spec. If I recall correctly

Base = no aluminium
Bose = adds aluminium
Burmester = adds even more or a different finish

My base 718 with the SPP (base audio) has the aluminum trim in the door pull. Might be a U.S.-only thing?

You're right, I have just double checked this on the configurator and it would appear as if Leather Interior (which you have?) does indeed add a trim element to the underside of the door pull/speaker surround area. It is just the Burmester spec that adds an additional piece of metal trim around the area.

@Chris NZ and @Viffermike have covered this thoroughly but I can add another confirmation. My 2014 981C has the standard interior and no special horizontal trim strip in the door panel, just the silver ones on the dash/console. The 2018 982C has the full leather interior and the door trim strips (I opted to have these and the dash/console trim painted the exterior color). Bose, which both have, adds a little trim piece by the door speakers.

When the warped door panels were replaced under warranty on the 981, the entire panels were replaced, not just the top part that had warped. I asked at the time about the inserts and was told they cannot be added on the non-leather door trim.

I'm not even sure what trim strip all of you are talking about. I have the Bose audio system. The interior looks like this, seeming similar to the OP's picture, though a Cayman instead of a Boxster:

I don't know that I'd want any other detailing.

Here's the graphite blue with the full leather package which includes the silver door trim.
