...it was time for a change. In 2007, I saw the first Cayman while working in Tokyo. After a little research, it became clear that if I ever bought a Porsche, it would be a Cayman. That thought has been at the back of my mind for a decade, during which time a number of Mercedes have come and gone. So, it’s been a long gestation! My wife wasn’t too keen on the idea, especially after she was a passenger in a cayman with 20 inch wheels and the boy-racer exhaust button depressed - which isn’t much fun if you are accustomed to the comfort and tranquility of a Mercedes. However, that changed once she was behind the wheel. That’s exactly the point: It’s a fabulous car to drive. Base Cayman 718 with PDK, GT Silver, 19 inch, Lane Change, and a little internal paint (as a nod to the brand heritage) - and all of the standard Australian spec. The adventure begins.

Congrats and best of luck with your Cayman.

I have to admit, I didn't see myself as a Porsche owner for many years. All of my 911 experiences were frankly, disappointing.
But as I started looking at the last-generation Cayman my opinion changed. And when the 718 came out (just as I was retiring), the stars seemed to align.
My wife also had an excellent experience the first time she drove a 718 and that helped.

What's the "internal paint" you are referring to?

@aeronca65tl: Thanks for your message. 'Interior package painted' is the name of an option whereby the dashboard trim strip including cupholder cover and centre console trim are painted in the external colour. It's subtle when the car is GT Silver.

Interior Package Painted. Below are some photos of the interior of my 2018 Cayman showing the trim pieces painted to match the exterior. Since the car also has the full leather package, the door trim strips are also painted black.

Wow, 14 M-B cars.... that's quite a history! We're on our third now, the wife's C450 AMG 4Matic, her ticket to personal freedom. And speaking of Mercs has me recalling that as a teen I had a part-time mechanic job at the Mercury outboard motor dealer.
