Finally got my new 18inch wheels installed with winter tyres.

Its odd I think I actually prefer the 18inch look, compared to my summer 19inch.
I find them somehow more agressive looking and with a hint of retro.

I dont regret taking the 19inch quite yet (I still like them), but **** those 18 looks good.

Thats all I wanted to say. Praise the 18inch.

When I was speccing my car, my salesguy tried to steer me to the 20" or at least 19" because he thought they looked better on the car. But I held to my guns on the 18"ers because I knew I'd find bad roads out in the boonies. To my eye, I can't really tell much difference.

Have to say, ride wise, I cant tell much diference in confort between 18 or 19 , even the boxter with 20s i got for the day was pretty smooth.

Maybe with more time I ll see a bigger diference but so far its not night and day.

Still, I now think if I had seen 18s in person when I speced mine I would have stick with them.

Those 18s really suit the car well!

I don't like the look of massive wheels with lots of space around the brakes. IMO if your brakes don't fill up the space in the wheels, then your wheels are too big! :)

Yeah the 18" wheels on these cars don't look bad at all. I have no problem with them whatsoever. That being said I personally I think the 19's are the sweet spot between looks, comfort, noise and replacement cost. Fortunately we plenty of choices in terms of wheel options both from Porsche and other manufacturers so everyone can hopefully find something that works for them.

Good for you. The 20" winter tires are a mythical creature, nearly impossible to find. Sadly, I'll have to wait for warmer weather...

I'm torn between the bigger brakes, cooler looking 19s, and maybe nicer cornering shorter sidewalls of the S with 19s vs the lighter brakes, lighter wheels, and more comfortable/durable taller sidewalls of the base model with 18s.
How much better do the S's brakes feel?
How much better to the 19s feel in corners?
How much ligher are the base model's wheels & brakes?

I enjoy the ride of the 18s and the braking is fine. Even Car and Driver was impressed with the 'no fade' results in 5 consecutive stops from 70 mph to 0. Unless you continually travel at well over that speed and need to brake HARD often, I doubt you'd notice a difference.

The original Top Gear tested one car (can't remember which) and found the optional low profile tyres slower and less manageable around the track. Again, unless you are really pushing it the difference is probably moot.

Buy what you want, even the very base model is far beyond what I can use on the road.
