I only got a really close look at an Alpine 110 Berlinette on the one occasion & despite the fact it had long since seen better days & needed a great deal of TLC, I couldn't help but think what a stunning car it must have been when new. When I look at pictures of one now, I still find much to admire, it truly is (in my opinion) a thing of beauty .

I haven't seen the new one close up at all & have only ever seen photographs. Now I know that designers hands are somewhat tied due to safety considerations etc & maybe it's a car that looks considerably better in the flesh, but I personally think that despite the nod in the direction of the original, it's ended up being quite an ugly car.

I can see Chris NZ is clearly a huge fan & by all accounts the new Alpine is really great to drive, it just leaves me rather cold & that's pretty much the exact opposite of the original.

Renault Sport/Alpine knows how to make good handling cars, drove te megane RS with the cup chassis and it was hands down better than my Cupra R. The Alpine is handling wise on par with the 718, the only difference to me is the build quality in the interior, where Alpine uses Renault bin parts. On practicality/interior quality the 718 wins. This is just my opinion.
Dē gustibus et colōribus nōn est disputandum.
Agree pretty much 100% with this, although I think weight saving was also a factor in the interior. As far a practicality goes the Alpine would never work for me as a daily driver, especially in a one car family. The guy who wrote the evo eCOTY arcticle commented that he had to put his travel bag on the seat next to him as it wouldn't fit anywhere else. The 718 definitely beats it in this area.

Another area that would be a concern for me is support for a specialist product like this in a small far away country like NZ. I've had a couple of issues with my Megane RS recently and the official dealer struggled to diagnose them as they simply don't have enough knowledge of the car. As the car is so uncommon in NZ we also don't have independent workshops who specialise in the brand.
