In the 60s, when I was in high school, I had a friend who had a Corvair with a "turbo-supercharger". So I was familiar with the concept early on.

But later, in '73, I got to see the Penske 917 "turbo-Panzer" obliterate all the competition at a Watkins Glen Can-Am race. 1500+ horsepower! In a way, the 917 ruined the Can-Am Series.....no one else even stood a chance.

It wasn't surprising to see Porsche bring out turbo street cars in the mid 70s after that.
