Another front license plate idea.

I live in New Jersey where we are forced to have a front license plate.

I've been messing around the last few days and here's how I ended up doing mine.

I have had my Porsche for 6 months and although I purchased a front tow hook plate (from cravenspeed) I have never installed it and have been riding around without any issue (ticket). Why didn't you try a front tow hook plate?

......Why didn't you try a front tow hook plate?......
I did mock one up and looked at a number of photos of them. And I like the idea that there's no drilling or mods to the car.
(although my 718 current mount only requires one, tiny drilled hole in the center, black-plastic "grill")

But in the end, no offense, I don't really like the look of the tow-hook mount.

It's not that I think my solution in all that great......but I like it better than the tow-hook mount.

I agree that having no plate looks best on these car (although the skinny, 4" tall Euro tags look decent in the "well" of the center, front "grill" area).

As I mentioned in the link above, I built a tow-hook mount for my previous car (NB Miata) and liked the look on that car. But on the 718, not so much.

Non taken......I have no stock in cravenspeed or any of their products;)

As I stated the tow hook plate I have is still in the box......if a get a ticket or two I will use it. It's all personal preference....as with nineball placing a drill hole in the Porsche, for me at least, would be unacceptable.....

I would only mount a front license plate in the center of the car. Mounting it off center looks very odd to me. I would rather drill holes. It’s not like anyone is going to see them.

Mounting off center looks odd to everyone but again it is, as I have stated, a matter of personal preference. For me at least it's the lesser of two evils.

I fully understand your point. I have to say it sort of killed me to drill that hole. (even though it was only one hole about 0.150")

There is some talk here in NJ of deleting the front license plate requirement. They're already dropped the requirement for cars registered as "antiques" (like my MGB and Lotus 7).

If they do drop front plates, I'll be right out there ripping the tag off my Cayman and looking for a teeny, tiny 0.150" plastic plug.

I guess we could say these are First World problems. ;)

My point is, I would rather have 2 small hidden holes in the front end that no-one can see, rather than have a beautiful Porsche looking odd because of the strange placement of the license plate.

Let me tell you my opinion, again my opinion, I think a plate dead center or off to the side is ugly. Therein explains the reason my tow hook mount is still boxed up. I personally, again to be clear we are talking about our personal preferences, would not buy a "pre-owned Porsche" with the front plate holes. Clearly, your opinion differs but that does not negate the way some Porsche owners feel, and I fully understand you have the right to drill however many holes in your car you feel are appropriate and/or necessary.

Seriously? You would not buy a car that has front plate holes? That’s a first. You know how many holes are already drilled in a Porsche?

Have to agree to this!

But aren't our preferences funny/different? Some will do:
Plastic wrap.
Paint protection.
Air intake screens.
Painted/coated wheels.
ECU re-mapping.
Window stickers.
Martini decals.
Plexiglass wind diffusers.
Mirror wind deflectors.
etc., etc.

and some won't drill 2 tiny holes so they can drive legally.>:D

Having the the license plate off-center to the right is almost as bad as having the steering wheel off-center to the left. I guess that would be a double whammy in the UK.
