Not to steal the thunder from another thread here but I experienced a very similar story.

I was the proud owner of a 2015 Boxster in Mahogany Metallic. I put over 70,000 miles on this car and loved every one of them! It had the sport suspension, PDK, exterior colored roll over bars, and a number of other fun options.

Unfortunately, due to no fault of mine, I was hit by an impaired driver causing irreparable frame damage.

Luckily nobody was hurt, including the other driver, but I was left with the dilemma on what vehicle to purchase. I spoke with my contact at my local dealer and he offered that I drive a new 2019 718 Boxster GTS in Chalk they had in stock. After driving the vehicle I was so unbelievably impressed that we worked out a deal nearly immediately.

It was optioned with a manual, PASM+, body colored roll over bars, and a few other options. I feel the Chalk color is really very spectacular when seen in person.

I haven't owned a manual in nearly ten years so I am excited to get back into the heel toe shifting!

What are things people have done right after purchasing their 718s?

Mahogany metallic is a fantastic color!
I've got to agree, that is one of the nicest colours I've seen. I had a much paler version on a '63 Buick Skylark convertible and loved it, but the intensity of the dark one is spectacular.
I'm glad you like the replacement. Enjoy the new 718, after 2½ years I still go out in mine just to drive.

Thanks guys!

On another note, since it is a manual, perhaps someone could educate me on what all the sport and sport+ settings do? I know on a PDK shifting is drastically different but when changing your own gears I don't know.

Also, I have seen mention of a Soundaktor on various sub-threads. Could someone possibly explain what this is?

Thanks for the help on the newbie questions!

Sport and Sport+ change the engine mapping, exhaust valve opening and the PASM settings, and (I think) the rev matching. (Not positive on that--I have PDK.)

The soundaktor basically pipes in sound to the cockpit from the engine. Most like it defeated (several threads tell you how), some like it. It's a simple mod so experimenting is easy.

<snip>After driving the vehicle I was so unbelievably impressed that we worked out a deal nearly immediately.
I had to laugh at this.? It was my experience exactly. I'm sure it's a "not so secret" technique.

Sorry for your loss, but you’re going to love your new BGTS. Really a beautiful color there.

To confirm and add to the previous comment, in addition to what was mentioned, on a manual, you also get rev-matching on downshifts in Sports and Sports+. In Sports+
SPASM is also activated, where it is not in Sports mode only.

You’re gonna love the new car, that said I am very curious as to your comparison of the two once you’ve had some time to absorb.

I’m a big proponent of the GT4 short shifter. That would be my recommendation after deleting the Soundaktor.

Not a cool story but a very cool outcome. No injuries and a beautiful chalk GTS to replace that equally beautiful mahogany metallic 981. The faux sound thingy is the first thing you want to do away with - especially with a manual. It drove me nuts as I was trying to take in the engine and shift points. Really, it just sounded like white noise. Other than that you're gtg. Best of luck and enjoy!

Edit: Plus one on the short shifter. Very much improved my enjoyment of driving this car!

On page 32 in 718 Imanual you have this chart :)

Since you have a MT you can forgett about the PDK but you will have throttle blip

The sound aktor is a tactile tranducer (butt kicker) thats mounted on the fire wall.
Somewhere around 2019 they changed the unit to another one thats not as brutal as the first one.
If you take the fuse in the rear trunk it goes silent :)

Thanks for all the great comments! I was also thinking about potentially adding a hood stripe in the center (a decal). Has anyone done this and do they have thoughts? Or does it look super tacky?
There was a thread a few months back where the owner had a stripe added. The car was either black or midnight blue with a gold stripe centered on the hood. Personally I think your chalk GTS looks perfect the way it is ;)

Found the link - Just pasted these yellow decals i ordered from zen graphics Uk

However if you do a site search you'll find more pics and discussion o striping.

This is super helpful! Sorry for all the newbie questions.

Super excited to take it out on some dry pavement! It’s been either snowing or raining every day since I bought it. It actually snowed an inch during my drive back from the dealer ?

I would also add to a vote for the short shifter. It took me a little more than an hour to do, mostly because all those switches were in so tight and I was also (alcohol joke). The shifter mechanisms look very similar, but the lack of leverage nearly gates reverse and makes every other gear more distinct IMHO. I went into the short shifter thinking the stock shifter was one of the best I've ever had, and it is, but the difference is significant and enjoyable. Something to think about.
