Does anyone know of a documented engine or transmission failure due to a tune? If so, with which tune and what type of engine failure? And no, this is not a should I tune or not thread.

Just want to understand the threshold or "yield point", and hopefully this thread will live long enough to give us a better idea. For example, as a previous RS3 owner, it is well known that the 5 cylinder 2.5 L will bend a rod at anything above 530-550 ish ft lbs. A couple of tuners/customers have learned this the hard way and have just recently refined their tune to deliver torque smoothly and limit it below said torque value.

Pure

Relative to the Macan lineup, the 718 lineup is still in its infancy when it comes to aftermarket ECU tunes.

I came to the 718 from ownership history of a couple Macan Turbos. I chased ‘more’ with various piggyback and ECU tunes. In the latter regard, the COBB AP is far and away most popular and the path I chose to take. I went with the COBB stage 1 93 oct, as well as the Flat6 Stage 1+ 93 oct tunes.

I eventually abandoned the COBB for what seems a fairly common problem, particularly with the Turbo model. Namely, the stock diffuser could not handle the increased boost pressures. Not a matter of engine or transmission ‘failure,’ but something you appreciate immediately when it occurs. The turbo just cannot hold its boost. As expected, the problem is reportedly overcome with installation of a higher quality aftermarket diffuser. I simply was not willing to chase ‘weak links’ exposed with aftermarket ECU tunes.

Again, relatively early times when it comes to aftermarket ECU tunes in the 718 and, to my knowledge, there are no reports of engine/transmission failure associated with COBB (or APR) tunes. Not sure the diffuser will prove to be an issue with the 718?
