I'm curious as to the result/feel. I doubt I'll ever be in a position to experience it, well except in first/second gear - maybe. But those would likely be just so abrupt that it wouldn't really be indicative of the function I don't think. How much does it throttle back and does it release you just after it backs down below redline? Any other observations?

None for 718, yet. I have hit the rev limiter many, many times when street racing in my Audi S5 and 944 Turbo. I beleive the iginition is cut (no spark). You get a pop-pop-pop sound, which I beleive is no spark above the RPM limit, followed by a spark when the RPM falls below the limit, and then no spark as RPM exceeds the limit again. Very cool sound, but upsetting because you know you're losing time.

I think I have experienced this a couple of times and it's a bit disconcerting: the car is accelerating nicely when, suddenly, everything goes quiet for a fraction of a second, accompanied by a slight jolt.
Hopefully it is not causing any damage to the car, although it certainly gives me a start!

Veddy British understatement...

We are talking about rev limiter here.

The car is at the red, screaming like it's the second coming, trying to punch you through the seat to the firewall  (accelerating nicely...:ROFLMAO:)... Imagine if you were going downhill!... That would add to the excitement!...

Yes, indeed, my dear chap! As it happens, I was going uphill at the time, watching the road rather than the revs or gear selection. It certainly took me by surprise, I wondered if there was something wrong with the car. It seems to be a slightly different experience than that described by chester7 & johan in the above posts.

I have accidentally. When my third gear disappeared. I was accelerating hard, backed off, then went back to acceleration and no third gear. So I hit the rev limiter hard for a second. It was very disconcerting, but nothing got damaged. Sounded like a machine gun firing quickly. I had the dealership do a rev report, and there was nothing above range 2, which was good news.

The only time, generally, when damage could be/is done is a missed shift....then the engine absorbs the revs due to physics and the impetus of the vehicle whether the plugs are firing or not.....on acceleration in the proper gear the motor cuts out before damage can be done and the issue is usually easily controlled......

I thought the rev limiter was gentle, but I'm used to Ducati's - they'll make you spill your Starbuck's.
It seems that part of the adjustments made in sport Chrono are to make the rev limiter more abrupt and so in sport plus it goes from a gentle cut off as you get to redline to an abrupt one so that you can maximize the gear you are in before shifting.
