If they are 19's or 20's I would prefer the sliver wheels on the car

The 2 pictures aren't quite fair, since one is an 18 inch cayman wheel in silver vs the 20 inch Carrera S in black.

I prefer the silver look for the same reasons as GregW said. However I also prefer the 20 inch carrera S aesthetic. But 18 inch may have some unsprung weight and ride comfort/pothole protection benefits. 20 inch has the option of fitting MPS4S however. 18 inch currently doesn't.

I should have explained the pics - I am going with 18 for ride comfort / pothole protection - living in NE OH, the roads are not the smoothest. My option is to keep as is or have the 18 painted black upon delivery.

Thanks for the input -

I would definitely keep the 18's silver and think that painting them black would be overwhelming.

The 20 inch wheels appear to have a lot less visual mass; this combined with the narrower tyre side walls means the black effect isn't as overpowering. Just my opinion of course.

Absolutely, prefer the standard Porsche wheel color. In my opinion, blackened wheels look smaller and pull your eye away from admiring the beauty of the Porsche body esthetics rather than enhancing it. Also don't like "blackened" LED headlights.......it makes the car look like it has two black eyes:laugh:

I prefer silver wheels of any diameter. I think black wheels detract from the overall look of the 718.

I ordered a graphite blue gts that just arrived at Davisville. I specked Carrera sport wheels. I never liked the looks of black wheels although I’ll admit they do look ok with some colors. I guess I’m old enough to remember hubcaps, and black wheels look like the hubcap is missing. Another option, and one I wish I had ordered are Carrera sport wheels painted black. You get a bit of black and silver, and it complements the black accent theme of the gts.

I have no real opinion of the silver color vs. the black........I have a white Cayman with 18" silver wheels. I think it's a decent look but it's obviously just a personal opinion.

I suppose it really depends on the color of the car.

But one thing I do wish we had was the old-style "wide steelies" with hub caps that was prevalent years ago.
I love the look, whether it's on a British sports car or a classic VW.
And I have always liked this look on older 911s.

That is an excellent point - I never took into consideration the inside open space of a 20 inch rim - with an 18 you have less space - and I have only looked at the black on 20 inch rims - I appreciate the insight

So now that I have talked myself (thanks to all the great input) back into the Silver Wheels - where is the best place to get the colored center caps - or should I have my dealer just order them?

When i picked up my 718 last year i was also having the same debate over silver or black.

I like the silver better as it looks more classy than the black, just my opinion, no offense to the folks that like black rims.

I also had my rims coated with ceramic pro and it is a breeze to clean the rims and barrels. I would suggest getting them coated with ceramic pro, nothing looks better than shiny rims.

For my 718 B-GTS, I went with a middle-ground between the silver and black ... the 20" Carrera Classic Wheels. My car is Night Blue Metallic so the all black wheels were just too dark but the silver to too bright for the black trim on the GTS.

The brushed aluminum spokes on the wheel against the medium-gray barrel was the winner combination for me.

I hope to pick the car up this Sunday (assuming it makes it from the Port of Benicia to my dealer on time), so will post pictures once I have the car in hand.

I'm tellin' ya: Once you go black, you'll never go back: >:D

But I get it. Black wheels have to 'work' with the rest of the car, as well as be of the right design. Since I've either body-colored or blacked out almost everything else (right down to the model name, headlight washer nozzles, LED headlight housings and smoked rear taillights), I feel it works on my car -- which was part of the plan.

To the OP: For 18" wheels, I don't think black will look quite right on any wheel except possibly a very clean five-spoke design. Black effectively makes the wheels look smaller than they actually are. To my eyes, my 19s work because of the five-spoke design and a relatively short and clean rim section; a denser design wouldn't work quite as well.
