Hey guys,

I have these two babies in my Taiwan's garage. I narrow it down, I do not need two compact sports cars. Driving both back and back and to be honest. I can't figure out which one to get rid of. They are both amazing in their ways. In the real world, M2 is no brainer much more useable space for a daily.

2017 M2 MDCT 5,000 miles ( lease )
2017 Boxster S PDK 2,300 miles ( paid in cash )

If money was an issue (which it doesn't sound like it is) you would be better off selling the Boxster, since it will cost you to get out of your M2 lease early.

@Toyman_PA: OP is in Taiwan. You can tell by the license plates on the cars. But your point is valid: BMW leases are generally not friendly ... and M2 leases in particular are downright punitive because it's such a high-demand car. The residuals on them are obscene ...
@eurpeankar: Please think about what your motivation is, and what your needs are, with having the M2.

Then, do the same exercise with the Boxster S.

Then, do the same exercise with the Porsche SUV.

Whatever motivates you the least, and fills the fewest needs, get rid of.

My personal vote would be the M2, even if it costs you money (and it will). The SUV fills the practicality bill. Your second car doesn't need to be as practical ... and, as a general rule, a two-vehicle setup should feature two vehicles as different from each other as possible to fulfill your (here are those words again!) motivations and needs.

(NOTE: I owned a mildly modified 228i before my 718, and I'm still quite active on the 2Addicts.com forum. I know quite a bit about the 2 Series and the M2, and I've driven a couple of the latter. Great car, but BMW cuts corners on it like it does any 2 Series. Porsche cuts far, far fewer corners in its cars.)

When I decided to look at moving back to a RWD car, the M2 initially was top of the list. Made a lot of sense on paper. The I drove it and was pretty much underwhelmed. It was something akin to going to see a movie that everyone you know is raving about and walking out of the theatre thinking it was ok, but in no way great. The M2, per the press, might be the sportiest of the M bunch, but to me its a classic modern BMW M, overweight and a little sloppy in terms of its dynamics. Just trying to be too many things for too many people. It in no way resembled what I was hoping for, a modern version of an E30, the first, last and only M I've ever truly loved. Now, I get it that if you only can have one car, or just have to have a back seat, it may well be the best compromise, but make no mistake, it is a compromise.

All of which reminds me of the time many years ago after I bought a 993 over an E46 M3. All my BMW owning friends where rabid to know what the Porsche was like to drive. I remarked that when you own an M3, you always wonder what driving a 911 is like. When you own a 911, you never wonder at all what driving an M3 is like. AFAIC, sub in 718 and M2 and it's still the same story 20+ years later.

I totally understand your dilemma. I have an 2016 M4 as my daily drive from April to Dec 1st then it goes in garage (with an occasional drive in winter). My weekend ride is a 2018 Cayman S (and a daily drive in winter as long as no salt around on the roads). The M4 is more practical. In Southeast PA very few M’s. If my wife said get rid of one I would most likely sell the M4(all paid for) only because the CS is like a go cart on the winding rolling hills n so much fun to drive (I have a F150 for more room). Good luck, either way you win.

Here is how I solved a similar issue. I have five cars.

First, allocate a specific purpose for each car. I have:
1.) Utility car
2.) Track car
3.) Sports car
4.) Fun toy car
5.) Winter sports sedan

Second, only hang out with people who have ten or more cars.

You see, I only have one “sports car” so no redundancy. Hanging out with people with a lot of cars makes me feel “ normal” having more cars than I truly need.

It’s about perspective...Keep them both!

I am like you. I have a 2006 Scion XB as my daily driver and a 718 CS and 1990 Mustang GT as my "toys".

I own 6 + a trailer. Half are the Porsches listed below which live along side a GLA 45, Golf and a F150. I love to drop a couple, but somehow they all seem to serve a certain purpose.

....Hmmmm.....sounds familiar. My stable consists of 4 vehicles at a time. One daily driver (typically an SUV), a fun or play car (as I call it), a sports car (just sold my Corvette not too long ago, making some room for my anticipated 2019 GT4) and a motorcycle. Funny, I was enjoying my play car more than my sports car, so got rid of it early. So...if you use/enjoy them all, by all means keep them, if you can afford them. Clean house of whatever you do not use/enjoy...start fresh with one and rebuild if need be!

I like the way you guys think! Having multiple cars is not a problem, just need a sufficient garage. For sport and touring most anywhere out of town I have the Cayman S that replaced a BMW M3. The little Smart ForTwo is the around-town errands car serving as a micro-SUV. A Nissan Frontier 4x4 for snow and hauling. The wife loves her M-B C450 AMG 4matic. Have not had a motorcycle for some years, the Yamaha 1100 was replaced by the Toyota MR2...

If you don't ever need to carry more than one passenger, I would keep the Boxster S.

If I had to decide between my M4 and CGTS, I would keep my CGTS.

Its very much a personal question, and when asked between a porsche and a bmw on a porsche forum, seems safe to assune pretty much everyone here will be biased toward the Porsche : ) .
I do find bmw boring too, and even if money is not an issue, just knowing that getting her 3 meters out of the garage make her lose half her value, as all bmw do, push me well away fron that brand.
