As the title says. Stock battery is 50.7lbs, the g30 is around 5.5. The stock battery tray is aluminum so it is easy to mount too. See the attached pics.

All batteries require grounds. I had to swap the posts as they are different sized. The positive is larger than the other. As far as registering the battery with the car systems, I haven’t done anything. I’ll need to look into it, but it works as is and there are no warning or causation in the mfd

That's less then I feared. Does the battery somehow need to be "registered" by a dealer with PIWIS? I've heard the the car needs to know but was never able to confirm this. Thanks.
From what I’ve read, people say the coding is needed to change the battery charging behavior. My dealership is real good with this stuff so I will call them tomorrow and ask what they think. The service manager is a pretty cool guy and doesn’t like to charge for unneeded stuff.

Curious what they say. I was just bringing it up because one is not supposed to use standard lead chargers on lithium batteries. That's why I was wondering if the car needs programming to the appropriate charging method while driving.

Intersting. I can find no one who has had a problem swapping in a lithium battery with the cars charging systems. I will still call my dealership tomorrow and see what they say.

I believe it has to do with the way traditional lead acid battery chargers trickle charge. I am not entirely sure, but they did design it to work as a direct replacement.
Yes. I found this and think they are explaining it pretty well: Can I charge my lithium battery with a lead acid charger? - Enerdrive Pty Ltd
I may get me one as well. Really impressed by the weight savings.

I did some more online reading. Without understanding every detail I think it's correct that modern car alternator systems are acceptable for charging a lithium battery.

It does seem there are so many variables and conflicting info online to make it questionable. One thing I find odd, which has nothing to do with the battery type, is that when I disconnected the stock battery to switch for 2ish hours, nothing reset. No setting, radio presets, or anything. Didn’t even get dash lights that I would expect requesting resetting for a power loss. I did drive the car for about half an hour today. got up to 15.2v maxi settled at 15.1. I had my nose system full blast playing some hay-z with ac on, heated seats on both seats and cooling as well as lights on, and voltage dropped to 15. Less. Than I expected. I kept start/stop on to test it and the car turned back on around 13.5Ish Volts. The AGM was around 12.8v and didn’t last as long as the lithium I feel. The agm I have is about 2 years old, so that is a factor. But even starting is noticeably faster in all modes.

Hello All,

New guy here. Was going through some Porsche threads and this caught my eye since I've had a bit of experience in this field. There are a few companies out there making Lithium-ion batteries that are plug and play with most modern automobile charging systems. Choosing a battery with a robust BMS (battery management system) will save you a lot of headache down the road from a lithium-ion battery meltdown due to overcharge or a bricked battery due to over-discharge. In addition, if you are not using the vehicle for a daily driver, seek a lithium-ion smart charger (if a proprietary one is not otherwise provided) to maintain the battery during long periods of vehicle downtime. I recommend avoiding using a non-smart charger for a Lithium-ion battery because you could fry the battery if it happens to be below 11 volts from an overcurrent upon charging or you could hasten the cycling of the battery from the charger constantly and unnecessarily recharging. Hope some of these provides some insight!

I have a Noco Genius G3500 Smart Charger which has a "Lithium" charge mode. Works well with all Lead Acid chemistry's. Anyone have knowledge of this device in the Lithium mode of operation particularly with the Braille G30?
