You are correct that it is usually a 2-year maintenance item, but my car sat on a dealer's lot for nearly a year before I purchased it in August of last year (a significant reason why I got such a good deal on it), so the brake fluid has likely been in for nearly 2 years now. Plus, I am in south Florida, and with the extra humidity we get, it seems like the prudent thing to do.Is there a reason you want to replace the brake fluid so early? It’s usually a 2 year maintenance item.
Got ya, makes sense. You are correct that it is usually a 2-year maintenance item, but my car sat on a dealer's lot for nearly a year before I purchased it in August of last year (a significant reason why I got such a good deal on it), so the brake fluid has likely been in for nearly 2 years now. I have yet to take my car to them, but I am planning on using Porsche West Palm (Braman).Got ya, makes sense.
I am in south florida too. Which dealer are you using?
Ok hope everything goes well. I am closest to Champion but anything in Broward/Palm Beach is close enough.I have yet to take my car to them, but I am planning on using Porsche West Palm (Braman).
No, the OEM fluid is quite good as far as OEM fluids go. However, all brake fluid absorbs moisture from the atmosphere and that water will collect in the low spots in the system—typically the calipers. Over time that water will lead to rust or oxidation in the braking system, and if you are repeatedly hard on the brakes (think track days) that water will boil into a vapor and cause brake failure. Two years is a typical replacement schedule for street vehicles.Excuse my ignorance... in all the years i have driven i never heard of changing brake fluid. Is there inferior brake fluid in our 718’s?
The reason to replace brake fluid is determined by water in the fluidGoing to be taking my car in for the 1st year's annual inspection and I wanted to get my brake fluid changed. Has anyone priced this by itself and, if so, what was the cost?
Thanks
