Does anyone have an alternative to the OEM brake pad sensors? The ones at Suncoast (https://www.suncoastparts.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=P&Product_Code=718SENS) are insanely expensive. On my 987 I could get a non OEM sensor for about $8.


Also in the past I've changed the rotors with every other pad change. Looking at the state of my rotors at the moment that seems like it will work on the 718 as well. Any one have experience with how often they change their rotors?

I'm going to bump this.

I have about 5000 miles on my car and am ready for new brakes (yeah...some heavy track miles on there...)

Does anybody have any specs for rotor measurements/thickness on when they should be replaced?

Sorry- just eaves dropping on this thread... but are these brake pad sensors a wear item that are supposed to be replaced with pads? Odd.

Also - another question for those who have replaced front brakes. There is a sensor wire that is in the wheel wire harness that connects near the top of the wheel. I suspect this is a wheel speed sensor. Does anyone know how to disconnect it? Having it disconnected during a brake pad change would make it much easier to move the caliper a bit farther away from the rotor. My assumption is it disconnects/reconnects in the same way as a brake sensors, but want to make sure before I break something. :)

Here is my recollection although I can't remember where I picked it up.

Both the sensors and the caliper bolts are not reusable items, so when you do a brake job, they should be replaced with new parts.

If I find a definitive source, I will post it.

The sensors don't have to be replaced if they have not been worn down yet.
That's good to know since I am intrinsically cheap.

Porsche has something called a "Brake Pad Removal Socket" Did you need to get that socket? Is that some type of funky proprietary Porsche bolt or just a spline head bolt in disguise?

(Edit: I just noticed it is ten points, not 12 so that leaves out my triple square hope.)

I've never used a 'brake pad removal socket'.


I use standard tools for the rears (you'll need a small hammer, a punch, pliers, and something to open the pistons - i use adjustable 12" pliers) This assumes you are not changing rotors, just pads.


For the fronts you'll need all that and pad spreaders, and a torx 55 bit and 10mm bit because you have to remove the caliper.


And of course all the tools for removing the wheels, etc. And appropriate brake hardware pads, sensors, whatever else you'll be replacing.

Attached is a ( bit blurry) photo of the front caliber of my GTS. ( I believe the same brakes as S) There is a ten point bolt showing, actually there are two on each side, one higher and one lower. I believe these are holding in the pads in the front.

Did you need to remove this bolt? If so, what did you use? ( this is what the Porsche tool is for, I believe)

No, you don't need to remove those.

981 and 982 brakes are different. You have to remove the caliper on the 982 to access the pads.

I just ordered the sensors from FCP Euro. We'll see how that goes.

Since the car is still less than a year old, I wussed out and ordered "Porsche" parts for the rotors and pads, even though FCP Euro looked substantially less expensive. Probably wait a while before I start putting on major non-manufacturer parts. ( Although I did skip the N0 tires, LOL)

FCP Euro (https://www.fcpeuro.com/Porsche-parts/718-Cayman/Brake/?year=2017&m=1&e=17569&t=6&b=8&d=15627&v=) has "OEM replacement" front and rear sensors for about $6 each. They also have rear pads and rotors pretty inexpensively, which is great if you have PTV and track your car.

Great to finally find somewhere with Sebro sensors for the 718.


We should have a thread that lists where you can purchase various parts for the car. It would be very useful to have that all in one location.

I've used FCP Euro many times for my BMWs and have had great service & pricing.
Their parts are also lifetime guaranteed.
