So i got my 718 cayman last monday and i just now noticed there is a camera behind the rear mirror on the top of the windscreen. I was just wondering what it does since i didn't find anything about it in the manual. I wonder if it's for rain sensor or smth.
Will post pic later if needed.

It's the light sensor for auto-dimming mirrors and rain sensor, not a camera. ;-)

Wondering if the lane keep assist and traffic sign recognition feature uses the same camera and can this be enabled for a car that have the camera ? Anyone have any info on this. I have PDLS+ and the camera but the first owner didnt choose the traffic sign recognition feature

I believe you are correct and that it comes standard when you have PDLS+ (is that LED only now?). When I had the apple carplay and maps added to my car, sima indicated that camera allowed activation of many features.

However, I don’t know if there are other components needed (sensors/ect) to make them work. My car doesn’t have BSM so there are no indicators on the door to light up, meaning I’d have to add those as well. I’m a big boy and know how to adjust my mirrors correctly, so that’s not an option I’d look to add. Now if I could get the cruise control to be active, I’d do that. I may have to reach out and see if that’s something he can do.

I have PDLS+ but no speed limit indicator.

They do use the same camera because when mine gave up the ghost, it affected PDLS+ and Speed Limit Display.
That's good to know, so maybe coding would activate mine then.

However I do know BMW had a few types of camera. One that did adaptive lights and one that did adaptive lights plus speed limiter. So you couldn't just activate speed limit with them, Porsche may be the same.

PDLS+ is full LED. Yes most probably for traffic sign recognition the camera should be enough. Atleast it works that way for the OEM i work for. If you need adaptive cruise control then you need the forward facing radar under the bumper. Normal cruise control should be able to work without that.
