Hello!

I’m back in a Boxster again after having enjoyed a 987S back in 2009. A lot of cars have passed through my garage doors in that time, including a BMW 330d M Sport Touring, Cayenne Diesel, Audi RS6, 2 x Audi RS3, 992 C4S, Macan Turbo, and a Panamera 4 e-hybrid Sports Turismo! The Panamera was recently in getting some electrical gremlins fixed and I was given a base 718 Boxster and loved it… Cue much searching on the internet and this Carmine Red GTS 4.0 PDK appeared at a dealer not too far away…

Loving the forum - hugely impressed at the amount of information on board!

I chatted with a gentleman in the Porsche paddock of the last Caffeine and Octane in Jacksonville a couple of weeks ago who had a new Boxster GTS in Carmine Red and it was gorgeous. My wife had originally wanted a Macan in blue but changed her mind right then. It was parked next to a Guards Red Cayman and it was nice to see the difference in person in the same light.

FWIW, I think the guards red / carmine reds look super sports cars such as the Boxster and Caymans, even the 911, but I saw a Carmine Red Macan GTS in the Alps this summer and thought it was too much. I wasn't a fan of it - I think there is just too much body and it is not a sports car, so it struggles to carry off the bold colour.

I would prefer the Macan in a more muted colour such as blue / grey / crayon etc.

I think sports cars carry bold colours better

I agree that larger vehicles rate a more subdued color (I think Miami Blue really only works on smaller cars, there's a Miami Blue Macan in my area and it just doesn't work for me), but I do like the darker reds like the Carmine Red and whatever red Mazda uses on their vehicles. My daughter has a new Mazda CX-5 in their darker red and it looks amazing. Not sure I'd feel the same about Guards Red or Lava Orange though, it's too much.

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to view a Macan outside of my local dealership in Carmine Red

when I saw the color in person...I was "sold" (getting over the hefty 'special color' charge)
- and it color shifts in lower light its darker, more ruby and in the bright sun its a brilliant vibrant red

Guards Red is another interesting color - lot of color shift as well. In lower light, looks red and in bright sun shifts to a Red-orange tone
