Hi everyone I recently got my cayman 718 gts 2019 and it's due a minor service, I am based in Surrey England and am getting quoted £1770! Is this normal as i saw other people getting quoted far less my car is only 6 years old and got around 38000k miles on it this seems really high!

Have you asked for a breakdown on what they will do?

Looking at the service schedule for the GTS (assuming yours is a 2.5 not the 4.0) in addition to the standard minor you'll need

Brake fluid change
Serpentine belt change
Engine air filter change

Personally I'd do some phoning around other OPCs that are a drivable distance and bounce them off each other. You may find you'll get it a little cheaper but not by much. If you're a member of PCGB then mention that as you'll get at least 10% off parts and possibly labour.

Do you have a breakdown of the labor rates and the services being performed? Also keep in mind labor can often be more than vehicles that don’t require disassembly and reassembly of the interior just to access parts of the engine.

I put ~1500 miles a month on mine and I feel like I easily spend twice this a year just between oil, filters and brakes.

Just off the top of my head

  • Oil twice a year - $300 a pop
  • Full brake job / rotors / flush - $1300/axle
  • Filters, usually last over a year - $300-600
  • Tires - $1000s…

These are just my regular bits… and don’t count things like plugs, drive belt, clutch. All that to say… I’ve never had any issues at all with this vehicle… just tons of regular maintenance and hard driving. Just crossed 81k miles.

The best advice I got from an og HPDE PCA member was ask around and find a local shop if you can that services Porsches that see -all levels of use-… from collector cars and garage queens to daily drivers all the way up to occasional track days and full blown Cup Cars.

They will generally be staffed by former Porsche mechanics, provide at the bare minimum an equal and more tailored and personal experience than a dealership… and will most likely be cheaper in the long run.

I try to think of maintenance and performance as synonymous… and with how I push my car I want to know that it is going to do exactly what I expect and intend to… which means knowing I can rely on the state and performance of the various regularly replaceable parts (rubber, brakes, fluids, filters…) and I equate it to confidence and peace of mind when driving… much more so than in a non-performance car doing non-performance driving

I get into my shop often, I stagger my services so it’s never all at once… I get fluid analysis done every time… keep my rotors fresh… and generally stick to the Porsche script but in some cases let things go (if the fluids look fine)… but in other cases I go way over what Porsche recommends (e.g.: they say 10k for oil… I feel better going for 6-7k. And I do my brake fluid more frequently)

Overall the car has been incredibly… quite honestly I am -amazed- beyond what I would ever have expected the performance and reliability to be over these last few years.

But the relationship I have with my workshop now is a LOT different than decades ago driving my Camry… as in I have no clue who any of those guys were… and I’ve been forced to become friends with my Porsche mechanics just on the basis of how often we see each other 😅
