When did they come out with a Boxster R?

From the information believed to be true, the 718 will have the Boxster chassis, 4 cylinder turbo boxer motor, and reduced weight. Would you consider the 718 to be the equivalent of a Boxster R?

^ Boxster Spyder is essentially the same thing... I don't know, from a business perspective If porsche builds a car that cleans the clock of its more expensive models there starts to become very little justification to go for the larger car...
I'm sure that Porsche will make sure that there is enough difference between the different models. that could be done in art by interior materials, offered options, and limiting the engine.

Yes, that's something for them to avoid, it would indeed be a problem for them.
If they are close together then we may see Porsche make adjustments to the Cayman and Boxster moving them slightly up market in order to create space again.
