That seems like a short lifecycle.

2021 would be more likely. The 981 got 4 years, and they wouldn't want to interfere with the 992 launch.

Edit: And while this isn't the first bit of info about 718 T, the article is BS. They get Sport Chrono and PASM confused, etc. So, yawn. Lame.

Would it make sense for Porsche to have a base Cayman, the Cayman S, the Cayman T, the Cayman GTS and the Cayman GT4 in the same model year?

On top of that, the Boxster, Boxster S, the Boxster GTS and the Boxster Spyder?

Also, the 911 T is based off the base Carrera and priced just under the Carrera S. Why would Porsche treat the Cayman T as a model above the Cayman S?

To me, a Cayman T would use the 2.0 engine, use the weight savings and put out 315 hp. Use 19" wheels, add PASM and the Sport Chrono Package. Then charge about $3k under the Cayman S. There's your sports car bargain right there.

Think about it...Then the Cayman line up of the Cayman, Cayman T, Cayman S, Cayman GTS and the Cayman GT4 would be balanced and complete.

Just my opinion.

Just came across this article on CarBuzz.

BLUF: it’s lighter, slotted between CS and GTS on price/power, has the exhaust of the future 718 GT4, will be unveiled later this year or early next year, and is going to be available first half of 2019.

There are spy photos as well. Only thing that looks different is the exhaust.

There is more to those pics.......
That car does not have the sport seats, it is hard to see but it does not look like sport seats.
It has the ACC and rear wiper, strange for a car that should be lighter then S/GTS
And the ride height looks lower then s-pasm...

My guess, because of the prohibitive cost and complexity associated with WLTP [new emission testing] 2019 European/UK vehicles will be limited to:

Cayman GT4 3.0 400 BHP becomes PDK only, £75k + bribery/corruption [Launch Geneva March 2019]

Cayman GTS 2.5 365 BHP becomes PDK only. £62K

Cayman T 2.5 365 BHP is offered as 7MT only with PASM, PVT, SC, lighter glass, shorter gear lever, fabric door pulls, Sportex T interior, 20’ wheels, audio/nav/ACP standard with delete option, £60K [Launch Geneva March 2019]

Cayman S 2.5 360 BHP becomes PDK only. £54K

Cayman 2.0 is offered with both PDK and 6MT. £46K

Wishful thinking, in the hope the manual gearbox remains an option.

OK, I know the DIN and other tests weren't all that accurate in absolute terms, but the comparisons between cars held up fairly well. The tests above are well and truly non-sensical and can only be used to keep governments looking like they are doing something!:eek:

Agreed - these new tests are ridiculous! Just take an average version of the car and test that and be done with it.


It is just politicians trying to look like they are doing something useful.

At the moment only the 718 PDK is WLTP certified, others are still in progress to be certified.
CO2 (NEDC2 based on WLTP) is now 180grams, about the same as the NEDC2 was for the 718 GTS.
