There are lots of available mounts and I’ve tried a few. The best is T Design. They make several models for the 718, I like the Monaco which is magnetic and has wireless charging. if you don’t need those features, you can choose one of their other models. They do not require any drilling, gluing or any else that might damage the interior.

Rennline Magnetic Mount. It's great. I put the metal disk off center so the phone sits to the right as far as possible. I routed the charge wire so now that is close by and not ugly. This photo is my first position, I had the metal disk inside the case toward the bottom of the phone. That was no good, blocked charging and the phone would rotate downward. With the disk on the outside of the case it holds like a rock. I need a better new photo. I had my son shoot this with his phone since, you know with the phone in the mount I cannot take a photo. LOL. I will get my 1Dx and shoot a better photo.

I got a phone holder for my Galaxy S10 on Amazon for about $8...removed the plastic arm with a suction cup mount and put a piece of double-sided tape on it. Stuck it to the lid of the Cigarette ashtray lid, just far enough forward that my armrest opens. The phone lies there...fits perfectly and is out of the way. I like this a lot better than the other solutions mentioned.

cheap Amazon suction cup style. Don’t stick it somewhere you don’t want to remove material... this SOB is super sticky (it’s fine on glass)! Comes with a metal piece you can mount somewhere so the suction cup can stick to it, but I rather like my simple windshield mount. Hard to tell from the pic and I’ve since figured out how to mount it even lower, but it does not obstruct view for me.

oh and it was like $12-15 if I remember correctly.

This is how it is today. to get a pic from my viewpoint (it’s pretty close)

wish i had auto dim rear view so my radar could mount up tighter to the mirror.

this still isn’t an accurate representation, the radar looks lower than it actually is?

My plan is to use Apple Car Play with built-in communications software. To charge the phone I'll pop it into the center consol. I have a 3" USB cable to handle the hard connection. If charging isn't needed I'll just keep the phone in my pocket. All the phone apps will appear on the Boxter screen including WAZE which is my go-to nav app. Plus, with SIRI can make and receive calls, play any music I want, etc. All with voice commands... All good.

I have a really good single suction cup mount for my radar detector. Rather than under the rear view mirror (which worked well on larger previous cars) I'm thinking to the right of the mirror (American Car). Power cord (I believe) is in the passenger footwell. Generally I only use radar for long hauls. Soon I will be able to test all this theory.... lol....

I’m in a timeout thanks to the local (reserve) constable... okay I was maybe going a bit above the posted limits. The radar is at this time a necessary evil to keep me in check. I found being higher than just under the mirror was out of my vision (attention wise). Actually I used the normal suction cup mount on the way home from picking up the car and mounted it just above the Chrono clock. That was IMO the best spot for visual que’s and the sound seemed to bounce off the windscreen making it louder.

Dang it, just realized I need to move it back there again. Only used the blend mount because I had it.

I also bough the Rennline Magnetic Mount. I admit it is still in the box as the car is having the paint protection put on now and windows tinted but it looks good quality and fit. I opted out of the factory NAV due to the extra cost. Bill

I plug my phone in, drop it into the little web pouch in the passenger foot-well, and use Apple Car Play for music, navigation, and so-on. It's out of the way and works great. No need for a conventional phone holder.
That's where I keep my driving gloves. lol. (y)

The 718 lacks a place to store your cell phone other than the seat or in armrest. Anyone find a method like a magnetic vent holder or another method to place your cell phone?
Hi, with a bit of thought and improvisation i made a mount that is both extremely functional and instantly available/ removable.
I purchased a magnetic phone holder that is also a wireless charger, i fashioned a piece of flat spring steel from the blades of a large bulldog clip and then covered the clip with a finger from an old leather gardening glove.
i then drilled a hole in the clip and then screwed this to the mount with a small self tapping screw
the power comes from the usb in the glovebox and the mount simply slides onto the glovebox lid.
please see pictures below

Mine works great stored in my purse. I can charge it in the console, if needed, but it lasts 12 hours or more anyway. Rather not have dangling off a rickety holder. Bluetooth links it just fine. Either my husband or I can hold it and use it when in the passenger seat on trips. GPS works fine and easier to see when driving.

Mine is in my pocket, unless I need nav for someplace I've never been before, and then I'll plug it into the wired CarPlay. Other than that, I don't use my phone while driving.
