I have a 2019 718 manual transmission with 8300 miles on it and will be 1 year old on 11/4. This is my 6th manual transmission Boxster. 3 weeks ago I was in a drive through and my clutch pedal stuck to the floor when I pulled out onto the road and drove 8/10ths of a mile when I was able to pull off the road into a parking lot. Luckily, I didn’t have any traffic behind me. You could smell the clutch burning. I turned the car off and the pedal came back up. I called Porsche Roadside Assistance and they picked my car up. I just got my car back from Porsche and they couldn’t replicate the problem. I told them that the clutch pedal shouldn’t stick to the floor so something failed. All they did is flushed the clutch fluid and return my car. I am concerned that it’s going to happen again and I might not be as lucky to not have no cars behind me when my car fails.

This may not be of any help but I had this happen in my 1993 Pathfinder. Turns out there was contaminated fluid in the system. After replacing the clutch master cylinder and flushing the system, it worked again. But this happened with the truck after 15 years of ownership, not one year. BTW, I still have it and this has not happened again.

Sorry to hear of the issue. I literally read a full 3-4 page thread on this very issue. I'll try and dig it up and send the link over. In the end, Porsche replaced the clutch and something was amiss. Your initial issue is 100% the same as you describe. Said thread OP stated it happened again after his retailer stated all was fine and the clutch was toast days later....:(

I have to agree with you, there seems to be something amiss with the clutch system, you have a good reason to be concerned.

Your description confuses me a bit, so you are saying that even with the clutch pedal stuck to the floor there was still enough (some) power transferred through the clutch to keep the car moving(?), perhaps there was some pedal action and the clutch was partially engaged which caused the burning smell.

There are a number of things in the clutch system that can cause partial engagement problems, this can include clutch fluid problems like contamination, pressure leakage or improper fluid levels, which is why the car could continue forward because the pedal action could not disengage the clutch, also issues with the pressure plate which mechanically provides the pressure to hold the disc sandwiched between the pressure plate and flywheel.

It would have been interesting to know if the dealer found contamination on the fluid or if the fluid level was low, although to be honest, at 8300 miles neither of these should be present unless introduced by some other defect. As for the clutch disc and pressure plate, I don't think these cars have an inspection cover, so removal would be one of the few way to determine is there is a physical defect in those pieces.

They flushed the clutch fluid and returned the car to me yesterday. However, now my low oil pressure warning light came on this morning. The oil had just been changed so Bert Smith sent someone down to adjust the oil level and drove the car to make sure it was fine and then returned the car to me. I drove it at lunchtime and guess what the low oil pressure warning light came on again so the car is being picked up Monday morning.

Yes I think the clutch was partially engage because I could drive the car off the road but the smell was pretty bad.

I am glad to hear that the dealer took the car back for service, surprised that they are having such difficulty getting the oil level correct, make me wonder if one of the oil sensors is faulty...

Also good that the clutch fluid is clear, should be free of contaminants, still wonder about the release mechanism within the pressure plate, has it been shifting and engaging/disengaging properly since the flush?
