Phroenips, I’m just up the road from you, in Evergreen. Yep, it’s been a snowy month, but at least once it warms up, we have lots and lots of uber-scenic and twisty roads (with elevation gain!) most suitable for wringing out our 718’s, unlike our friend ROFO in Orlando.

Only got that one time. First day I brought it home and dealer apparently filled coolant too much. Nothing since and I live 40 miles east of you in the same heat. Unusual weather for Front Range. Lived there (Fort Collins) 5 years and only a couple of days/year of snow. Phroenips, as you know, March will be the worst under normal circumstantce - hang in there - the mountain roads are calling.

Only if there is a leak or an overfill being 'fixed' by the pressure cap valve. If the cap is allowing excess to expunge itself you will have a 'wet' rear inner right passenger side wheel area...you will also find a bit of fluid in the drain ring under the cap.
Monitor your fluid fill as they don't seem to like the 'max' fill.....have your water temps been an even 194ish?

Then probably a little fully warm/hot overflow....the normal coolant issue (bad water pump) is noted by spiking water temps. I'm not sure how often the pump fails either but it has happened....
I filled my coolant to below the max mark by a few inches when fully cold.....it puked a bit and seems to like a base of the funnel level so there it sits.
When/if they do discharge a bit it ends up on the right rear inner suspension area.

Truth be told I'm somewhat relieved to hear there are some others having this occur. Makes me think it may be normal for these engines. Let me explain. I too had/have the occasional coolant smell over the past few years. I've tried to find a leak and did discover a small drip inside the passenger wheel well. Turns out this came from an overtightened cap, which was replaced and the leak stopped. I then caught another whiff a few months later, but no detectable leaks were found after putting the car up on jacks. I took it to the dealer last month who said the reservoir was overfilled (my fault). They said there are no other leaks they could find, reservoir sensor or otherwise. BTW, don't believe the owners manual about how to top up (cold - up to MAX line). If there are no leaks or warning messages, don't touch it. For those of you like me who like to play with the details a lot, fight the urge in this case. It results in overfilling per the dealer. I still catch a whiff once in a while, but there are no leaks to be seen. Punch line is the dealer found no leaks and with the overfilled diagnosis said the system can be picky and may discharge some coolant in the normal course, particularly if overfilled, hence the smell. For my part the only undetectable leak would be from the water side of the ICAC direct to the intake, but then I would expect the OBD to throw a code on the O2 side. If it ain't broke don't fix it. If nothing else I made a service record with the dealer visit.

bump , I've noticed this before sometimes. My car is CPO , and I suspect it had a overflow / water tank / issue as some point and it's residual ( still ) . No issues after 7K miles and 5 track days.

My 2013 Malibu had a heater core leak, VERY slight , and I still catch a whiff like 8 years later .

There is a bunch of spongy sound deadening material around , once it gets wet with coolant it smells forever .
