bump , I've noticed this before sometimes. My car is CPO , and I suspect it had a overflow / water tank / issue as some point and it's residual ( still ) . No issues after 7K miles and 5 track days.
My 2013 Malibu had a heater core leak, VERY slight , and I still catch a whiff like 8 years later .
There is a bunch of spongy sound deadening material around , once it gets wet with coolant it smells forever .
