Hi guys,


So couple of things, i know the Cayman's are common for rattles from the rear but have one that isnt to bad but frustrating when music is off, any ideas of what to try, sounds like its from behind passenger seat. ( it doesn't appear to be seat belt)



Also the gearbox can be heard quite loudly when changing gears with the window down, not so much when going but moving around car parks etc, is this normal? Manual btw.

My Cayman has an annoying rattle that also seems to be coming from behind the passenger seat. I tightened the two bolts holding the privacy cover but that did not seem to address the issue. If there are some additional things to try, I would like to do so before taking the car to the dealer. The car does not have PSE.

No PSE, just stock system with Sport Tips.

Is it the seat belt? If you don't have the little plastic tab pushed up it will rattle about.

No, but I know what you are talking about and have fixed that rattle before. This rattle is present even with a passenger strapped in and the clip in the correct location.

Same as mine, its not really loud but still annoying enough.


No idea if the gearbox being noisy is an issue though.

Sounds like you have the same rattle I do. I found that pressing on the metal D-ring that the belt comes through stopped it, and I'll share that with the dealer when I go in.

had also an rattle in my new 718 CGTS coming from the back. First thought it was the lock mechanism, so the dealer replaced it under warranty. Did not work out. Still had the rattle. Started to foam some areas of the trim. It did not work out... Finally I found the issue. The rattle came from the water and mainly from the oil cap. To make the rattle go away I had to put some hardfoam under the covers on both sides so it put some pressure on both caps and the rattle was gone. Very tricky and it took me weeks to find out... but now really happy.

Ahh il have a look into those 2 things then, possibly grab some black foam pads and see if that helps, cheers guys.

On the gearshift noise, I could hear the "click, click" on my 981 when stopped near a wall or other surface such as in a car park but never thought of that as a problem. I have not noticed it to be as loud on the 982 but I have not yet been in similar conditions with the windows down.

Yeah it makes like a mechanical sound when engaging gears, i mean i expect some noise, doesnt appear to do it win normal driving just around my house or in car parks.
