Three days ago I sent an email to three dealerships providing a build code and asking if/when they have an allocation and to provide a price. I got a call and email from one within 15 minutes and a quote and allocation information the next morning from them. The other two have not responded other than the typical auto-reply. So, is this typical in your experiences, or did I break protocol in not establishing a relationship the a SA at the dealerships beforehand? Even if they get spammed on quote requests, you would think they would pick up the phone to verify interest. It has either turned me off to those not responding or made me rethink my approach. The responding dealership was light on their "discount" so I'm not inclined to follow up with them without other input. Any thoughts/suggestions?

I just went through a similar process, however 2 of the dealers I had met in person and did test drives, and one only via email that was in a bordering state and further away. The one I had the most contact with came in with a 2 1/2% discount, a complete joke. The 2nd local dealer came in at 6%, while the out of state dealer was at 7 1/2%. Placed my order with the out of state dealer on Monday.

Good luck!
Your experiences will vary. Don't hesitate to contact dealers a little farther away - they may agree to a larger discount and offset the price of any potential shipping.

My local didn't want to work with me so I purchased my car directly from across the country. Granted I was purchasing off the lot, but during my research I found there were definitely people having far away dealers do builds for them.

The 718 is an amazing car, but at this point many dealers may prefer to use their allocation on a guaranteed sale/build and take a discount than have a spec car sit on their lot for months. This may not be the case as the effect of people whining about the lack of a 6 dies down when people actually drive one and figure out how sublime the flat 4 turbo really is.

I went to two Porsche dealers (both within a hour of my home) and a third dealer who sold previously own "exotic" German cars. I had a trade-in and exotic German car dealer dealer offered me the best price on my trade-in but that was offset by the sales tax on a new 718. The price of the 718 at both Porsche dealers was the same but the dealer closer to my home offered $2000.00 less for my trade and would not negotiate. I went with the dealer who offered the higher trade-in value.
I live in Washington state and called dealerships all the way down to LA. I figured a 1500 mile road trip home along the California and Oregon coast would be a good way to break in motor. I ended getting the best deal (price and trade-in) from a dealership north of me in Bellingham as the two local dealerships in Bellevue and Tacoma offered the worst deals of the six dealerships I spoke with.

Good luck.
Trying to get any discounts in Canada is like pulling Teeth..They say since its a new car your even lucky at 2% discount
Hey guys. I'm a Brand Ambassador for Porsche North America. I work for one of the most attractive, privately held Porsche Dealerships in the country. We're based in Arizona. I'm on this forum because I'm an enthusiast and I have a 718 on order, but I'm guessing some members here could benefit. We won't ship out of State for "specialty" Porsche's, but I believe I can help a couple of you find some decent deals on 718's. If it's something we have in inventory, it would of course be much easier and in your benefit, but getting a discount on a car we order to your exact specification would be quite difficult. If you're interested, I would do my best to at least look in to the matter for you. I would even look at someone else's deal and advise you if it's a solid deal. PM me or call on my cell for the quickest response.

TEST DRyVer. I've had a couple of SA tell me that larger discounts on 2018 base 718s will be hard to come by because of limited availability compared to the 2017 model year. Have you heard anything?

I just ordered a 2018 base Cayman. It wasn't hard to come by and I received a 7.25% discount. If you would rather purchase a new 2017 off the lot you should be able to get a 12-15% discount easily, of course in a month it will depreciate a year.

That's true. 2017 wasn't a great year for Cayman/ Boxter sales. Therefore, there seems to be less available slots for 2018 models. I had to wait for an allocation for my 2018 build. As far as discounts go, I would guess it has more to do with that specific dealership location and sales figures. Meaning: dealers that have a hard time achieving their numbers and goals for Porsche will tend to discount their cars more just to hit volume targets. Also, dealers that do huge numbers with Porsche might also discount their cars more because Porsche will always give them more allocation than other dealers because they move more cars than others. All that being said, the majority of Porsche Dealerships are in the middle between the 2 types I mentioned above. Most Porsche dealers are not very weak in sales and most Porsche dealers are not huge volume stores, hence why most Porsche dealers fall in the middle and are not to either extremes... For instance, where I work, the discounts on 718 are not strong, simply because there are not that many allocations available. If we don't have the opportunity for more allocations, we are not in a hurry to discount a car to move it...

Maybe the dealership in your home town is a volume dealer. I wouldn't assume that most Porsche dealers are that way. That would simply be inaccurate. I'm not going to say that it would be impossible to get a 12-15% discount on a new 718, but I would definitely say it would be extremely unlikely and a very unique and rare case in which something like that were to happen. We have 3 or 4 pre-owned 718's on the lot right now with around 500 - 2,000 miles and the savings from new are all below 10% from the original MSRP.

Btw, you should be happy! You've gotten yourself a really good deal on a 718! Especially on a car that your ordering to your personal specification...
