I like the barrel style - BlackVue are great. And the one listed above by Mrrippry looks good too. But this style. I have tried the ones with the screen but they will take up too much room and seem in the way...those BARREL STYLE tuck up high near rearview mirror.

Then you can use your Smartphone with these and watch if need to - or to aim it.

May I suggest too - Name Brand Micro SD (Samsung or SanDisk) - as big as you can afford and they can hold. 32gb or 64gb sweet spot.

I installed mine myself and it is very clean. I’ll take a picture of my installation in a little while (going out for a drive for lunch).

thanks guys - so many options.... Not sure I'd trust myself to install it though. I guess the dealer would if I asked. cheers
It’s very easy to install. Putting the wire under the headlines and down the a-pillar with the correct tools makes it a cinch.

Hardwired Escort Maxx and DDPai dash cam. Both installed myself. Just need patience and tools.

I'm impatient and don't have the right tools. That's why I hired a professional. Took the car in, listened to music and watched videos on the shop's media centre for an hour, drove away.

(Off topic funny--After my minor surgery I asked the doctor how long until I could get back to my stick and knife fighting classes 'cause I liked the exercise. He said "You know you can hire people to exercise for you.")

I just bought a DDPai mini 2. Very impressive. It is powered from my cigar lighter since that is the most convenient place for disconnecting it. I shy away from wiring to the fuse box - maybe when I get tired of the wire hanging out.... There are blank spots on the console where a camera switch could be nicely mounted...I'll check. I am almost at 10000 mile service, and will see what the service mgr says.

.....or you could just get two rubber bands and attach your phone to the sun visor.

Optics in modern phones (iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, etc) are probably better than the optics in most dash cams. Easy to power off of USB in car if needed.

And if you want on-screen data (such as speed and G force) you can add Harry's Laptimer to your phone for under $15 ;)
