Since my original thread at 3 days of ownership, I have a few more observations to share. No real revelations here though:

  • In these 12 days, I've driven the car 1600 miles. Part of this was a road trip we took last weekend from Orange County to Santa Barbara for the weekend.

  • Using the Porsche Roads App, we found a road in the mountains above Santa Barbara to drive. 17 miles of very twisty and narrow roads. As I had my wife with me and there were no guard rails on this road, I couldn't push the car hard at all. There were at least a couple hundred low speed turns on this route and I REALLY missed Power Steering Plus. I am waiting on the call from my dealer about adding this.

  • While I miss the sound of the flat-6 from my 981, I have grown to LIKE the sounds of the 718. A lot in fact.

  • To me, the 718 is MUCH more drivable due to its low end torque. It is more of a street fighter than a high strung thoroughbred like the 981.

  • With the 981, I found myself manually downshifting to keep the RPM at 3K to improve response. This is a habit I am working on breaking as it isn't needed.

  • I had P Zero tires on my 981. New car has Goodyear F1s. I'm not sure (yet) but I am thinking that the F1s are noisier.

  • I am finding that without PASM, places where it was almost impossible to not scrape the underside I can now easily pass. My wife thinks the new car actually rides better. I am used to it now and find the non-PASM car VERY predictable.

As I understand it, you may not be able to add Power Steering Plus. If you option it, you can then selectively turn it on or off, but otherwise you may be stuck without it. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for your thoughts, Scott. The PASM point is one that has been in the back of my mind for a while. I test drove cars that had it but ended up buying one without. I had felt like it was something I was missing but I have def reconciled in my mind that I am good without it and posts like yours back that up. It would look better lower but sometimes it helps to be practical. I haven’t scraped anywhere.

I can't think of a daily driver with PASM/SPASM... I hit the road getting of my driveway ramp every time, if I don't take it at an angle. I barely get by any speed bumps both in Houston and NYC. I think I'd be losing the front spoiler every other month...

Actually, this is one of the easiest options to add after the fact according to my dealer. It is nothing but a software download to the car. You have to buy a license for it and then they upload. About an hour of labor or so. Suncoast has the licenses for $299.95.
