Dealer has drilled my front bumper against my instructions, I'm apoplectic! PPF ramifications??

I don't know why I'm on here, just to vent maybe. :( I specifically said to my SA, in writing, on at least 3 seperate occasions I do not want the front bumper drilled, and their techie has gone and fitted a front plinth with a bunch of old woodscrews anyway.

They've verbally agreed to replace the bumper and have it painted locally, but I'm now nervous about colour match, and whether the paint will have gassed off sufficiently to have PPF fitted in 3 weeks time (it's already booked into a busy detailers).

I'm very sad.

Nope, that's a hard pass.
Mine has been warned multiple times like you did. I am going in tomorrow for delivery. I would go nuts…make sure the shop doing the work is Porsche AG certified. Not many are. I had a small parking lot incident on my Miami blue Macan. The job is impeccable. Triple checked the work in various lighting, flash light etc. They replaced and painted the entire rear bumper. Ask for some sort of compensation as well for stress. good luck!!!

What @Raymond said. That is unbelievably annoying. I would talk to your detailer about the time required before PPF but wouldn’t rush. Why not tell your dealer to procure and paint the bumper (to Porsche spec. and ensuring colour match) and allow it to cure for more than enough time. Tell them you need to use the car in the meantime and get the defective bumper PPF’d with the rest of the car, so you are not inconvenienced. When the detailer can fit you in, get the new bumper fitted and PPF’d at OPC expense. Good luck!

^^^ This. That would royally miff me off and the OPC should be doing anything and everything possible to rectify the problem. Personally, I'd have them fill the holes and have the area resprayed by an approved body shop. I'd rather have a small section resprayed rather than all of it especially if it's going to be hidden by PPF and a number plate. What would be even better is if they could source a bumper from a brand new car and swap it over, thus negating the need to respray.

I'd also be expecting some form of compensation for the stress and inconvenience.

Remember, they get a bonus based on the customer satisfaction survey result you fill in once you've taken delivery.

Sadly it's not going to get hidden by a numberplate, my reg plate is going inside the 3rd radiator slot (no 3rd rad on a 2.0). Basically like this, but with a slightly shorter plate:

'Detail Driven' have just got back to me, they want 2-3 weeks of gassing off and curing before they'll fit PPF. :(

3weeks at best for the paint but better to wait longer. I’m getting my bumper painted and the painter said 3 weeks is OK, 4 weeks + is best. You probably won’t know it’s an issue until you or the next owner go to replace the PPF.

I would be livid and I feel your pain! I bought my wife a new Toyota Highlander and told them specifically not to drill the front bumper as front plates are not required in my state. They did it anyway and hung a license plate frame on the bumper with their dealer advertisment.

I refused the car unless they ordered another of the same color and swapped out the bumper cover. They agreed and when the other vehicle came in, I supervised the bumper cover swap. The tech they assigned to perform the task did not even know how to release the cover clips that attached to the radiator support!

In that case I’d strongly suggest a bumper swap rather than paint.
I hope your bumper situation works out and I wanted to say hanks for posting the pic of the number plate down in the third radiator slot. I had thought of doing that myself but wondered how it would look

I am not sure what must be done to prevent dealers from feeling the twitching in their special parts that they have to screw in a dealer frame with drywall screws as the car is being backed off the trailer.

Yet one more vote for 'dealer leave the Fook alone and I will arrange all valeting and number plates' just check it PDI and get it ready to be trailered to my detail expert of choice. Had I known that this placing was an option for number plates, I would have mine this way in a heartbeat.

What does your detailer advise?

I agree that your dealer owes you a new bumper and a high Porsche quality paint job. But…could the holes be repaired in such a way that the PPF would further mitigate any visibility? If so have the dealer give you the money for the full replacement and repaint and have it repaired instead. You may be able to pay for most/all of the entire PPFwith the difference.

just a thought. Hope it all works out.

My dealer put a really subtle frame, no advert or anything. Even the screws are covered with a cap of proper color.

That looks acceptable (especially in Python Green 😃), but given that it's positioned on the side rather than centered on the bumper, why not just use a frame attachment that screws into the tow hook receptor, with no drilling at all?

I don’t think it’s off centre, that’s how wide Euro plates are….

Doh, my bad. I was looking at the parking alert covers. I guess the tow hook option wouldn't work for Euro plates given their size.

Sad with you. Sorry. I would wait as long as possible to make sure paint totally cured before PPF. I'm not sure what your detailer says but the last time I looked at wrap and PPF warranty it mentioned warranty was for factory paint. So to be safe I would wait a little extra if possible. Best wishes.
