Hi all, something disturbing me. I took my 718 for an oil change which was free for the first oil change at my dealer. When I watched them do the work they stuck a hose into the oil filter drain and stuck a collector under it. Then filled car up with oil.. hmm the missing bit is that they did not remove the pan under th engine bay and drain the oil through the drain plug at the bottom of the engine.. did they just take some oil out then top it off and call it a day and meanwhile I have mostly **** oil in my car? I can not verify because there is no dipstick. Thinking of doing the oil change myself which I already have the parts for and am competent to do... thoughts?

Did you watch the whole process or check in periodically? In my case I had two oil changes and watched everything. They remove the rear engine cover, remove oil drain plug, then prior to removing the oil filter they removed the driver side headlight elevator sensor to be able to remove the oil filter (tight space). Prior to removing the oil filter they attach a drain hose to the attached oil filter funnel. They then replace the oil filter and reattach the elevator light sensor, place a new crush washer and screw in the oil bolt. They lower the car add most of the oil and hook up a lap top to check the oil level as they add that last amount to reach the max fill line.

I performed my 1st oil change, and I don't think that it would be possible to drain oil from the pan by removing the oil filter and inserting a tube.

As Porsche2018 said, there is a built in funnel mounted under filter housing. When you remove the filter cartridge housing, oil spills into the funnel. Attach a hose to the end of the funnel and you can drain into a pan/container without spilling any oil.

At least that's the way it's supposed to work. Note to self..., remember to remove the filter housing slowly. :)
