Just as a matter of interest I took a quick look at the Porsche USA website to see what my car would cost there. I was quite surprised to see you can buy quite a number of packages, whereas in the U.K everything is priced individually. Obviously speccing a car up like for like then becomes a little more complicated. Obviously were I in the U.S, my car would most likely be slightly different. The cheapest way for some options there is by way of those packages & I'd probably end up with some items that I don't have here. I did the exercise though but only in exactly the same manner as we would in the U.K. (CODE PJZTQ7R9 & the price tag of $110,630). It could possibly work out slightly cheaper if you play about with the packs, I just haven't checked. What else was drawn to my attention though is that on all variants of the 718 in the U.K the Satellite navigation module & Porsche connect plus is standard equipment but optioned in the U.S. You get them here whether you require them or not & they add up to a massive $3500 worth of equipment priced in the U.S. There may also be other differences, but once again I haven't checked that thoroughly. The U.K price, despite being unable to buy those money saving packages, comes out at £76,734, which when converted to the U.S dollar comes to $98,863.36 & the best part of $12,000 cheaper. Take note though that this is partly due to the relative weakness of British Sterling which as yet hasn't been reflected in U.K prices & we must be due a fairly large price hike. It's worth comparing your site to ours though just out of curiosity.

I also have noticed that the 718 Boxster/Cayman is relatively expensive in the US when compared to other models. I used the German configurator prices as benchmark and was surprised to see almost no price difference for my Cayman. The Macan for example is way cheaper here in the US when compared to Germany.

Currently I'm led to believe that overall the U.K is the cheapest country in Europe in which to buy a Porsche. That's mainly due to the aforementioned fall in the value of Sterling. The dealers are apparently receiving multiple enquiries from potential customers from the rest of Europe. However, they are forbidden by Porsche to sell to anyone not resident in the U.K. You've peaked my interest with your comment though & I do believe I can feel the urge for a Macan comparison coming on. :)

I see connect+ & the sat nav module are soon to be included as standard in the U.S, as is the case in the U.K. They've also started to offer packages on the Macan here in the U.K as well, even if not yet on the 718. It seems the equipment differences & methods of adding extras are starting to become more similar.

If this article is correct it's rather interesting. I have a 718 cayman MY 2018 on order and did not order car connect or sat nav. Is this suggesting it will come with it, because those were high $ options. I don't find on any other website this information so I'm little skeptical of this. Would be nice if it was correct though.

If you go to autoconnectedcar.com & then type Porsche into the search box you can pull up the relevant article. According to that it's every new Porsche to be built after June 2017, not just Panamera. They also claim that in addition every new Boxster or Cayman will feature Dab digital radio. I can only guide you to the article not attest as to its accuracy. Sat Nav, Connect+ & Dab used to be cost options in the U.K but now come as standard here so it wouldn't be entirely surprising. However if your dealer says differently then you'll obviously have to go with him. Porsche aren't renowned for giving anything away & if it does get added to standard spec (either now or in the future) then you can be pretty sure it will come with an appropriate price hike in any case. Below are screenshots from Porsche U.K, you can see we actually only get the options of Bose or Burmester, everything else on the PCM is standard.

Differences in spec & price between U.K & US

Thanks Chilli. Have searched for similar language on the web and that is the only article that comes up and that article is over 2 weeks old so would have expected more publicity if it was the case. If it was accurate I suspect Porsche and the dealers would be making it very well known. In addition it would cause havoc with the orders already placed where people have agreed to prices with these options already included.
I'll quietly hope that it's correct and that I'll be pleasantly surprised when my 2018 turns up early august.

I understand where you're coming from & I'm not sure how they dealt with the changeover in the U.K. However like many of you I was continually messing with the on site car builder. One day I had a play & all the options under the Audio / Comm section had disappeared apart from Bose or Burmester (rather naively I assumed it to be some sort of website error). It was only later that I found Navigation, Connect+ & the Dab module were now listed as standard. As I already stated I can't see that even if it turns out to be true that they would come without an increase in premium on the cost of the car. It's just a guess, but I would imagine that any order that would include the items as standard wouldn't have given you the option to pay for them when ordering. But that order would then have seen a hike in the basic price of the car & they'd have foisted the items on you whether you wanted them or not.

My understanding is that this is exactly how the 2018 models are worked out. More items now "basic" and a higher "basic" cost. I certainly haven't seen any other significant changes 2017 to 2018.

I can't honestly say I regard having Connect+ as a bonus & I'd actually rather not have it at all. I'd be delighted if I'd been able to get my car without it. It's not used & because of this, I've now stopped providing it with a data connection.

Hey guys,

I've moved the thread over to the general discussion so you can get more views and responses to the comparison of the specs & prices between U.K & USA.

Please post within the Site Issues/Help/Feedback if you have any technical problems with your account on the site and/or have feedback on how the site could be better.

Thanks for your understanding and enjoy the site! :)

Cheers,
Natalie
