On the DISLIKE side of things, the 718 Cayman is a bit shy on storage space. I think the two things I miss most in this regard are (1) quality cup holder, if one considers a cup holder to fall under heading of ‘storage space;’ (1a) quality cup holder in the center console; and (2) a larger center console storage bay.

The only truly useful storage space is the glove box. Odd, because in prior vehicles I never stored anything in my glove box except items I only very occasionally had to access, e.g., owner’s manual, insurance/registration, etc. Fortunately, the Cayman is unique in that the driver can very easily access the glove box.

On the LIKE side of things, I was pleasantly surprised today when I stumbled across some new storage space. Probably one of those things you either knew about your Cayman or did not. I did not . . . and suspect I might not be alone?

Anyway, there is an open storage bay in the anterior portion of each door. What I did not realize until today is that - in the posterior half of each door - there is an additional storage bay that folds open. Reminds me of the storage bay present under the front of my Macan 18-way sport seats, albeit the storage bay in the Cayman is larger.

For those who were not aware of the fold-able storage space in the doors of the Cayman, I have attached photos below.

That's where my wallet goes. Very handy.

Wish a Kirkland 500ml bottle of water fit there...diameter slightly too large. Fortunately, 3 fit in the glovebox, along with my wallet and glasses. A bottle also fits in the “console.”

The 718 BS effectively has no significant interior storage, but it does have more than generous combined frunk & trunk storage for most lengthy trips. Although, on rare occasions, it would be nice to have sufficient room for the golf bag. Then again, our SL450’s holds 2 sets of clubs and I’d rather also have the 718 BS than a 911.

Not accessible while seated, but have you found the compartments in the Cayman on the sides of the upper luggage area that slide open? I believe on the Boxster it's where part of the roof mechanism goes but in the Cayman they're extra storage no one would think to look for.

Thank you Faizaan.

Yes, I was aware of those compartments but, as you indicate, they are not readily accessible 'cockpit' storage space. . . or, as GTS suggests, they are not really useful.

I think the behind the seat compartments are good for things you may not need access to on a regular basis. Window cleaner & some paper towels, etc. I put my sunglasses in the console since there isn't really enough room for much of anything else there. If there are two of us in the car, our phones go into the footwell net with long charging cables running from the console and between the passenger seat and the console. Mostly unobtrusive. And as I said before, my wallet goes into the flip-out door compartment. My wife puts her purse behind her seat - the advantage of shorter legs!

Absolutely useful . . .
Tyre pressure gauge, electric tyre pump, screen wipes, paper towels, microfibre cloth, ice scraper, LED torch, single use gloves . . .

It is nice storage since it tucks away. I kind of like how the Boxster / Cayman has little visible storage. Forces you to keep your cabin tidy! Cayman sliding storage behind seats is nifty. And if you are not super tall, there is decent storage immediately behind the seats.

My salesman (a.k.a. S.A., now carrying the creative title Porsche Brand Ambassador) showed me all the little interior details in my Cayman when I picked up the car. The fold-out pocket in the door carries my wallet and cell phone (and I can fit them both in and still close the flap if I don't try too quickly). I tend not to use the pocket further forward in the door because it seems like things would slide forward and be hard to retrieve, and also could block the door speaker. A 750ml Camelbak water bottle (with the top screwed on firmly enough that it doesn't leak) fits between the door and the seat so it doesn't need any other dedicated space. The sliding-door spaces behind the seats are bigger than they look but we've used them only occasionally. The frunk is monstrously large for groceries, and the rear trunk holds all manner of accessories like day packs, lunch coolers, etc. Even the shelf above the engine is decent storage for some kinds of things.

But it does help if you pack things in creatively!

Not accessible while seated ***
The base sport seats (not 'plus') don't interfere with opening that door pocket while seated in the car. But maybe other seats are a problem like Faizaan points out? Maybe that's why the owner's manual says that those little flaps are accessible with the door open.

An FYI on "the pocket further forward in the door" and things sliding forward - the inside edge (and in the fold-out pocket) have the same type of material as in the frunk where velcro sticks very securely to it. So, in my door speaker pocket I have a little (1 in. X 2 in.) camera remote control stuck to the inside wall (top edge) for easy access while driving and you can't even see it. Velcro sticky tape - the next best thing to duct tape...
